"Ciborium In Gilded Silver, By Chertier Orfevre, France Circa 1857"
Neo-Gothic style ciborium entirely in gilded silver decorated with aquatic plants and stylized vegetable friezes. It rests on a base with several ogee formed by six lobes with steps, the stem is hexagonal provided with a ribbed toric knot decorated with square buttons with glass cabochons and chiseled with acanthus leaves. The cup is flattened, with a domed and curved lid, topped with a floral melted cross. This ciborium is the work of the Parisian silversmith Jean-Alexandre Chertier, active from 1857, a great silversmith specializing in church silverware, he was medalist at the Universal Exhibition of 1878. ** Silver 950/1000, hallmarks Minerva on the foot, on the cup and on the lid.
