Georges LAPCHINE (1885-1951) - Paris, Place de la Madeleine
Oil on canvas 34 x 26cm
Signed and dated lower right
George Lapchine Russian painter, was born in 1885 in Moscow and died in 1951. He mainly paints post-impressionist figures and landscapes. He was a pupil of Fernand Cormon and Léon l'hermitte. Lapchine was particularly inspired by the Impressionists, whom he admired. He was passionate about city lights and the changing seasons. Here, in this view of the Place de la Madeleine in Paris, the artist translates the evening effect through shades and pastel colors such as pink and mauve. Impasto yellows from Naples bring a burst of light to this scene, creating a serene and soothing atmosphere.
