Winter Twilight By Cornwall Artist Charles Cardale Luck
Artist: Charles Cardale Luck (1875-1954)
Charles Cardale Luck was a Swedish artist who grew up in Sweden but moved around to, among other places, France and England - where he became associated with the Cornwall art movement.
His paintings rarely come on the market, so this fascinating painting caught our attention with the twilight light and the short, almost Pointillist brushstrokes in blue, white and purple that create reflections in the snow. Another clever detail is how he created drama and life in the sky and trees by carving in undulations with the back of the brush, a technique invented by Rembrandt.
Charles Cardale Luck ended his days in Kenya - Africa.
