Polychromed Nuremberg Chest With Its Bar, XVII
Corsair safe made in Germany, in the region of Nuremberg. In wrought iron, it is polychrome on the front, on the sides as well as on the opening top. These are floral motifs, foliage scrolls and fleurons specific to the Dutch polychromy applied to these German chests. The key opens an ingenious and robust mechanism with 5 bolts. The latter is covered with its finely chiseled plate with Mandarin characters. The trunk has additional security thanks to its bar blocking the opening and closing with a padlock (rear). It rests on a support. 17th century period.
