Signed lower left with the artist's monogram in red ink. The condition is very good, some stains on the margins. Titled Massagang I and II.

Nicolas Eekman (Brussels, 1889 - Paris, 1973)
Painter, watercolourist, xylographer, etcher and figurative lithographer. From the age of twelve, he took drawing lessons in Brussels. Studied architecture and sculpture at the Brussels Academy. Takes up in his works and in a very rigorous way the themes of P. Brueghel and J. Bosch. Illustrated with "Ulenspiegel" etchings; by Charles DeCoster. Lives and works in Brussels until 1914. Stays a few years in the Netherlands before moving to Paris around 1920. Runs his own Academy in Paris for six years. In the Netherlands, member of "Arti et Amicitiae", of Sint-Lucas and of the circle "De Onafhankelijken". In France, member of La Nationale des Beaux-Arts et du Trait.
Works in many museums including Brussels, Amsterdam, Arnhem, Dordrecht, The Hague, Otterlo, Paris, Dresden, Munich, Moscow, Prague and Chicago.
