"Flanders Tapestry Late XVII Century The Annunciation"
Flanders tapestry late 17th century The Annunciation An angel appears to Mary, surprised, and explains to her that she will conceive the Lord not with a man, but through the action of the Holy Spirit. The scene of the Annunciation depicts two characters that everything opposes: a winged angel, immortal, incorporeal in principle, and a pure young woman. One arrives and transmits a message, the other is motionless and listens. Often the Angel points with his finger to signify the recipient of his message. The text pronounced by the angel is most often the "angelic greeting", ie "Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you". Mary's gestures express her acceptance of the mission entrusted to her by folding both arms over her chest, palm open outward, especially until the 18th century.
