Leon Ernest Drivier Sculpture And Drawings Rare Poster

Léon-Ernest Drivier (1878-1951) was a French sculptor and illustrator. Born of a glove-maker father in Grenoble, Drivier entered the School of Fine Arts, then worked from 1907 in Auguste Rodin's studio. He was a friend of the sculptors Auguste de Niederhausern, Gaston Schnegg, Jane Poupelet and Antoine Bourdelle. In 1918, he created the official bust of La France victorieuse. Its first era is similar to neo-romanticism, then it approaches the neo-classicism of Charles Despiau. Many commissions were requested from him in the 1920s and 1930s, including a gilded bronze statue of about ten meters in height, representing the warrior Athena or France bringing peace and prosperity to the colonies or even sculptures representing La Joie de Vivre in the gardens of Trocadéro, created for the Universal Exhibition of 1937. Drivier was elected a member of the Academy of Fine Arts in 1943. Many works are now kept in the greatest museums in the world, such as the National Center for Modern Art Georges-Pompidou in the city of Paris, the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, the Despiau-Wlerick Museum in Mont-de-Marsan, the Museum of the 1930s in Boulogne-Billancourt, the Museum of Fine -arts in Cambrai, the Chartreuse Museum in Douai, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Strasbourg, or the Museums of Fine Arts in Buenos-Aires and Algiers.
