"Jean Charles Remond Italian Watercolor"
Very beautiful watercolor by Jean Charles Remond (1795-1875) depicting an Italian bandit escaping his pursuers (soldiers of the Pope) by climbing a cliff on the Italian coast. Jean Charles Remond unanimously awarded the Rome landscape prize in 1823 spent a few years in Italy at the start of his career. Two albums of lithographs illustrating scenes from Italy were published on his return from Italy, it can be assumed that this watercolor represents a scene not retained. The watercolor is signed and framed in a wooden frame and gilded stucco from the restoration period which would legitimize some of them. The dimensions of the sheet are 20.6x16.4 cm.
