He learned to practice his art alone, on the French Riviera where he grew up. Then, he painted in many places in France, near Marseille, the valley of the Loing, the valley of the Seine, Chartres but especially Parisian and Montmartier views. He lived in Montmartre from 1938 until his death, a place where he became friends with avant-garde artists such as Pablo Picasso, Jacques Villon, François Gall, Van Dongen and Severini. One can find works by Merio Ameglio in many collections around the world.
