L\u2019exposition permet de rappeler ce moment d\u00e9cisif pour Versailles qui conna\u00eetra, d\u00e8s lors, une nouvelle vie. En prolongement, elle propose une v\u00e9ritable plong\u00e9e dans le Versailles du xixe si\u00e8cle. Ainsi, plusieurs d\u00e9cors de th\u00e9\u00e2tre sont pr\u00e9sent\u00e9s sur les sc\u00e8nes du ch\u00e2teau et de Trianon, dont celui r\u00e9alis\u00e9 pour l\u2019inauguration des Galeries Historiques, le 10 juin 1837, plant\u00e9 sur la sc\u00e8ne de l\u2019Op\u00e9ra royal. Le public peut \u00e9galement s\u2019immerger dans les salles des Croisades, ou encore la salle du Sacre et la salle 1792, toutes deux restaur\u00e9es pour l\u2019occasion ou encore dans les salles du Consulat et de l&rsquo;Empire. Toutefois, d\u00e8s son accession au tr\u00f4ne en 1830, il marque son int\u00e9r\u00eat pour le palais et s\u2019emploie \u00e0 le transformer en monument national. La r\u00e9sidence royale dans le corps central, avec les Grands Appartements restaur\u00e9s et remeubl\u00e9s, qui conservent leur appellation et leur destination. L\u2019ancienne monarchie est surtout \u00e9voqu\u00e9e dans l\u2019appartement du Roi, dont la chambre marque le point d\u2019orgue de la visite. Ailleurs, dans les ailes du Nord et du Midi, des chantiers consid\u00e9rables sont entrepris. En transformant l\u2019ancienne r\u00e9sidence des Bourbons en mus\u00e9e ouvert \u00e0 tous, le Roi confirme sa vision p\u00e9dagogique d\u2019un palais au sein duquel les tableaux se lisent comme un livre d\u2019images, en accompagnement d\u2019un discours politique. Le roi pratiqua une v\u00e9ritable politique d\u2019encouragement aux arts utiles, commandant en particulier des meubles de style n\u00e9o-Renaissance ou n\u00e9o-Louis XIV, ainsi que des pi\u00e8ces exceptionnelles \u00e0 la manufacture de S\u00e8vres.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Versailles ancien et moderne<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Palais de la Couronne transform\u00e9 en mus\u00e9e ouvert \u00e0 tous, le ch\u00e2teau de Versailles surmont\u00e9 d\u2019un drapeau tricolore, conserva la structure centrale de la r\u00e9sidence royale, encadr\u00e9e par les ailes du Nord et du Midi, am\u00e9nag\u00e9es en Galeries Historiques.<\/p>\n<p>De 1833 \u00e0 1847, l\u2019architecte Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Nepveu fut le ma\u00eetre d\u2019\u0153uvre des travaux. Les grandes coupes montrent les am\u00e9nagements dans l\u2019ancienne r\u00e9sidence des souverains, qui comprenait les Grands Appartements du roi et de la reine, s\u00e9par\u00e9s par la galerie des Glaces. Espaces d\u2019apparat conservant leur appellation d\u2019origine, ils adh\u00e9raient magistralement au programme du nouveau mus\u00e9e. Louis-Philippe y op\u00e9ra un remeublement partiel. Surtout, il y exposa des tableaux d\u2019histoire pr\u00e9sent\u00e9s dans un panneautage lambriss\u00e9, g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement peint en blanc rehauss\u00e9 d\u2019or. L\u2019accrochage, \u00e9tait \u00e0 la fois, dense et sym\u00e9trique.<\/p>\n<p>Louis-Philippe sut am\u00e9nager les appartements royaux pour la visite. Le public pouvait admirer le cadre de vie des rois tout en revivant les souvenirs glorieux de la nation. Si l\u2019arbitraire domine parfois ce dispositif, moiti\u00e9 r\u00e9sidence, moiti\u00e9 mus\u00e9e, il en fait l\u2019originalit\u00e9 incomparable, et le Versailles d\u2019aujourd\u2019hui conserve cette double identit\u00e9<\/p>\n<p><strong>L\u2019inauguration du 10 juin 1837<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>L\u2019ouverture des Grands Appartements et de l\u2019aile du Midi r\u00e9am\u00e9nag\u00e9s par Louis-Philippe eut lieu le 10 juin 1837. Cinq mille invit\u00e9s se press\u00e8rent \u00e0 une f\u00eate magnifique, avec visite des galeries, et banquet dans la galerie des Glaces. La galerie des Batailles, avec sa perspective \u00e0 perte de vue, son \u00e9clairage z\u00e9nithal et ses trente-six tableaux int\u00e9gr\u00e9s au d\u00e9cor, devint l\u2019embl\u00e8me de ce nouveau Versailles. Les nombreux guides de visite et les Galeries Historiques publi\u00e9es par Charles Gavard n\u2019ont cess\u00e9 de reproduire ce nouveau Versailles.<\/p>\n<p>La soir\u00e9e du 10 juin 1837 s\u2019acheva par un spectacle somptueux \u00e0 l\u2019Op\u00e9ra. Miraculeusement conserv\u00e9, l\u2019un des d\u00e9cors, un Palais de marbre rehauss\u00e9 d\u2019or, r\u00e9alis\u00e9 par Pierre-Luc-Charles Cic\u00e9ri pour cette f\u00eate, est plant\u00e9 exceptionnellement sur la sc\u00e8ne de l\u2019Op\u00e9ra royal du ch\u00e2teau de Versailles jusqu&rsquo;au 4 novembre 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Si le roi avait pris des libert\u00e9s dans la pr\u00e9sentation de l\u2019ancienne r\u00e9sidence royale, il s\u2019affranchit dans les Galeries Historiques des r\u00e8gles d\u2019un mus\u00e9e.
