saison Japonismes 2018 : les \u00e2mes en r\u00e9sonance, offre l\u2019opportunit\u00e9 exceptionnelle de d\u00e9couvrir durant les quatre premi\u00e8res semaines de l\u2019exposition le \u00abTr\u00e9sor National\u00bb Dieux du vent et du tonnerre de Sotatsu conserv\u00e9 dans le temple Kennin-ji \u00e0 Ky\u014dto et seulement visible en de tr\u00e8s rares occasions.<\/p>\n<figure Japon et la France.<\/p>\n<p>Plus de soixante \u0153uvres sont expos\u00e9es selon un parcours chronologique en quatre parties suivant les diff\u00e9rentes g\u00e9n\u00e9rations d\u2019artistes du \u00e0 l\u2019honneur l\u2019\u00e9clat de la feuille d\u2019or pr\u00e9parant les visiteurs \u00e0 la magnificence des \u0153uvres, puis les plonge dans une ambiance contemplative.<br \/>\nL\u2019exposition pr\u00e9sente l\u2019extraordinaire vari\u00e9t\u00e9 des \u0153uvres Rinpa, montrant que les artistes de ce courant ne se sont pas consacr\u00e9s seulement \u00e0 la peinture, mais aussi \u00e0 la gravure, au d\u00e9cor d\u2019objets en c\u00e9ramique, en bois et en laque. Le terme Rinpa, cr\u00e9\u00e9 \u00e0 la fin du XIXe si\u00e8cle, est compos\u00e9 des deux caract\u00e8res \u7433\u6d3e signifiant \u00ab\u00e9cole de [K\u014d]rin\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c0 la diff\u00e9rence d\u2019autres \u00e9coles picturales japonaises, les artistes Rinpa sont unis non par des liens directs de ma\u00eetre \u00e0 \u00e9l\u00e8ve, mais par des affinit\u00e9s spirituelles. Le mot shishuku exprime parfaitement le sens du respect et l\u2019attachement que chacun d\u2019eux a \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9gard de ses pr\u00e9d\u00e9cesseurs. Le style d\u00e9coratif Rinpa est forg\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019aube du XVIIe si\u00e8cle par Hon\u2019ami K\u014detsu (1558-1637) et Tawaraya S\u014dtatsu (actif entre 1600 et 1640). Photo : domaine public.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Bien que ce mouvement soit aussi d\u00e9sign\u00e9 sous les termes \u00ab\u00e9cole de K\u014detsu\u00bb ou \u00ab\u00e9cole de S\u014dtatsu et de K\u014drin\u00bb, ces derni\u00e8res d\u00e9cennies, Rinpa demeure le plus r\u00e9pandu. Sur ces terres, il fonde une petite communaut\u00e9 d\u2019artisans. Peu avant, K\u014detsu commence \u00e0 collaborer avec Tawaraya S\u014dtatsu (actif entre 1600 et 1640). Impr\u00e9gn\u00e9es d\u2019une sensibilit\u00e9 nouvelle, elles s\u2019inspirent de la beaut\u00e9 classique de l\u2019\u00e9poque de Heian (794-1185), en particulier du style des Yamato-e. Reprenant les th\u00e8mes majeurs des Yamato-e, tels que les fleurs et les plantes qui changent au fil des saisons, ou s\u2019inspirant de la litt\u00e9rature et du th\u00e9\u00e2tre classiques, leurs \u0153uvres sont marqu\u00e9es par l\u2019utilisation de mat\u00e9riaux pr\u00e9cieux comme la poudre et la feuille d\u2019or ou d\u2019argent (kingindei, kinginpaku).<\/p>\n<p>En raison de leur fragilit\u00e9, les trois \u0153uvres phares pr\u00e9sent\u00e9es dans cette premi\u00e8re partie seront expos\u00e9es successivement pendant la dur\u00e9e de l\u2019exposition pour pr\u00e9server leur \u00e9tat de conservation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Korin\u00a0<\/strong><strong>et Kenzan : un nouvel \u00e9lan<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fils du propri\u00e9taire de la maison Kariganeya, l\u2019une des boutiques de textiles les plus renomm\u00e9es de Ky\u014dto, Ogata K\u014drin (1658-1716) et son cadet Ogata Kenzan (1663-1743) grandissent dans un environnement privil\u00e9gi\u00e9. Ils re\u00e7oivent une \u00e9ducation soign\u00e9e, se familiarisant d\u00e8s leur plus jeune \u00e2ge avec la po\u00e9sie et la litt\u00e9rature classiques, le th\u00e9\u00e2tre n\u014d et la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie du th\u00e9. Compt\u00e9s parmi les repr\u00e9sentants majeurs de l\u2019\u00e8re Genroku (1688-1704), qui marque l\u2019apog\u00e9e de la culture de l\u2019\u00e9poque d\u2019Edo (1603-1867), les deux fr\u00e8res collaborent souvent ensemble et s\u2019investissent dans divers domaines : calligraphie, peinture, c\u00e9ramique, laque.<\/p>\n<p>Artistes aux multiples comp\u00e9tences, ils donnent un nouvel \u00e9lan au style d\u00e9coratif Rinpa, tout en puisant dans le r\u00e9pertoire des th\u00e8mes et des proc\u00e9d\u00e9s techniques adopt\u00e9s par K\u014detsu et S\u014dtatsu. K\u014drin, en particulier, apporte \u00e0 l\u2019esth\u00e9tique Rinpa des innovations tr\u00e8s personnelles. Ses compositions \u00e9pur\u00e9es sont reconnaissables \u00e0 leur mise en page audacieuse, \u00e0 leur gamme chromatique aux tons intenses et au rythme harmonieux. Son art exerce une profonde influence sur les g\u00e9n\u00e9rations qui lui succ\u00e8dent.<\/p>\n<p>Connu en France \u00e0 la fin du XIXe si\u00e8cle, \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque du japonisme, K\u014drin est tr\u00e8s appr\u00e9ci\u00e9 par les amateurs et les collectionneurs parisiens. L\u2019historien de l\u2019art Louis Gonse (1846-1921), dans son ouvrage monumental consacr\u00e9 \u00e0 L\u2019Art japonais (1883), le d\u00e9signe ainsi comme \u00able plus original et le plus personnel des peintres du Nippon, le plus Japonais des Japonais \u00bb.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shik\u014d, Rosh\u016b, H\u014dch\u016b : Le renouvellement du style Rinpa<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Entre le XVIIIe et le d\u00e9but du XIXe si\u00e8cle, l\u2019esth\u00e9tique du courant Rinpa conna\u00eet une renaissance. S\u00e9duits par le sens d\u00e9coratif de K\u014drin, maints artistes s\u2019inspirent de ses \u0153uvres, d\u2019un point de vue soit stylistique soit iconographique, certains th\u00e8mes du r\u00e9pertoire Rinpa, tels les iris ou les vagues, \u00e9tant associ\u00e9s \u00e0 ce cr\u00e9ateur \u00e0 la personnalit\u00e9 unique. Ses compositions tr\u00e8s lisibles, aux lignes souples, notamment celles \u00e0 sujets v\u00e9g\u00e9taux ou \u00e0 figures humaines dessin\u00e9es avec une pointe d\u2019humour, exercent une formidable influence.<\/p>\n<p>Parmi les admirateurs les plus fervents de K\u014drin, on compte Watanabe Shik\u014d (1683-1755), r\u00e9put\u00e9 pour son style \u00e9clectique, Fukae Rosh\u016b (1699-1757), dont on ne conna\u00eet aujourd\u2019hui que de tr\u00e8s rares \u0153uvres, et Nakamura H\u014dch\u016b (mort en 1819), appr\u00e9ci\u00e9 pour son usage du tarashikomi (technique d\u2019application d\u2019encre ou de pigments sur une surface humide pour obtenir un effet flou) et ses peintures r\u00e9alis\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019aide des seuls doigts et ongles. Ces artistes rendent hommage \u00e0 K\u014drin en r\u00e9interpr\u00e9tant son style d\u2019une mani\u00e8re tr\u00e8s libre, \u00e9vitant de copier fid\u00e8lement ses motifs. Dans l\u2019Album de peintures de K\u014drin [K\u014drin gafu], H\u014dch\u016b, qui s\u2019inspire des dessins de son pr\u00e9d\u00e9cesseur, en perp\u00e9tue l\u2019esth\u00e9tique picturale par le biais de la gravure. Sakai H\u014ditsu (1761-1828) constitue un cas \u00e0 part : repr\u00e9sentant du Rinpa d\u2019Edo, on lui doit la red\u00e9couverte de l\u2019artiste gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la publication de Cent dessins de K\u014drin [K\u014drin hyakuzu], sorte de catalogue raisonn\u00e9 de ses \u0153uvres.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sekka : l\u2019h\u00e9ritage Rinpa au XXe si\u00e8cle<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>D\u00e9sign\u00e9 comme le dernier grand repr\u00e9sentant du style Rinpa, Kamisaka Sekka (1866-1942) est actif principalement \u00e0 Ky\u014dto entre la fin du XIXe<br \/>\nsi\u00e8cle et les premi\u00e8res d\u00e9cennies du XXe si\u00e8cle, durant les \u00e8res Meiji (1868-1912), Taish\u014d (1912-1926) et le d\u00e9but de Sh\u014dwa (1926-1989). Artiste aux multiples facettes, ce dessinateur et peintre talentueux collabore aussi avec divers artisans, dont son fr\u00e8re Kamisaka Y\u016bkichi (1886-1938), cr\u00e9ant les d\u00e9cors d\u2019objets en bois et en laque, ainsi que pour des c\u00e9ramiques et des textiles.<\/p>\n<p>Auteur de nombreux recueils de motifs d\u00e9coratifs, dont Les Herbes de l\u2019\u00e9ternit\u00e9 [Momoyogusa] (1909-1910), Sekka fait revivre la sensibilit\u00e9 Rinpa, contribuant \u00e0 moderniser le design et \u00e0 promouvoir les arts appliqu\u00e9s au Japon.
