Johan Jongkind, Jacob Maris et Frederik Kaemmerer pour le milieu du XIXe si\u00e8cle, George Breitner et Vincent van Gogh pour la fin du XIXe si\u00e8cle et enfin Kees van Dongen et Piet Mondrian pour le d\u00e9but du XXe si\u00e8cle.<\/p>\n<p>Leurs \u0153uvres sont pr\u00e9sent\u00e9es aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de celles d\u2019artistes fran\u00e7ais contemporains comme G\u00e9ricault, David, Corot, Millet, Boudin, Monet, C\u00e9zanne, Signac, Braque, Picasso&#8230; Courtesy Worcester Art Museum, MA, Stoddard Acquisition Fund, 2016<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>De 1789 \u00e0 1914, plus d\u2019un millier d\u2019artistes hollandais se rendent en France, attir\u00e9s par la Ville-Lumi\u00e8re et le dynamisme de sa vie artistique. Paris est en effet la destination pris\u00e9e de nombre d\u2019artistes du monde entier. Elle attire par les multiples possibilit\u00e9s qu\u2019elle offre : son enseignement, les opportunit\u00e9s de carri\u00e8re, la richesse de ses mus\u00e9es et un march\u00e9 de l\u2019art en plein essor. Les s\u00e9jours des artistes n\u00e9erlandais, plus ou moins longs, sont parfois le premier pas vers une installation d\u00e9finitive en France. Ces artistes ont en tout cas une influence d\u00e9cisive sur le d\u00e9veloppement de la peinture hollandaise, certains comme Maris ou Breitner diffusant des id\u00e9es nouvelles \u00e0 leur retour en Hollande. Par son talent et ses relations bien plac\u00e9es, il est nomm\u00e9 en 1793 professeur de dessin botanique au jardin des Plantes. Ami de Jacques-Louis David, Van Spaendonck devient une personnalit\u00e9 importante de la vie artistique parisienne et fait figure de pr\u00e9curseur pour toute une g\u00e9n\u00e9ration de peintres n\u00e9erlandais qui souhaitent faire le voyage jusqu\u2019\u00e0 Paris. Ary Scheffer est l\u2019un d\u2019entre eux. Il s\u2019installe dans la capitale en 1811 et devient l\u2019un des artistes les plus en vue sous le r\u00e8gne de Louis-Philippe. Le succ\u00e8s des expositions universelles en est l\u2019une des raisons. C\u2019est \u00e0 cette p\u00e9riode que s\u2019installent les peintres Jongkind, Maris et Kaemmerer. Ils fr\u00e9quentent assid\u00fbment les caf\u00e9s et se lient d\u2019amiti\u00e9 avec les artistes fran\u00e7ais, tels Boudin ou Monet avec Jongkind ou tout du moins ils observent attentivement leur peinture comme Maris tr\u00e8s influenc\u00e9 par l\u2019\u00e9cole de Barbizon. Cette vie artistique foisonnante inspire leur mani\u00e8re de peindre. Le d\u00e9veloppement du march\u00e9 de l\u2019art leur permet \u00e9galement de mieux se faire conna\u00eetre.
