{"id":8665,"date":"2018-03-30T16:36:49","date_gmt":"2018-03-30T15:36:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.proantic.com\/magazine\/?p=8665"},"modified":"2018-04-01T17:26:56","modified_gmt":"2018-04-01T16:26:56","slug":"porcelaine-de-chantilly-technique-materiaux","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.proantic.com\/magazine\/porcelaine-de-chantilly-technique-materiaux\/","title":{"rendered":"Porcelaine de chantilly: Technique et mat\u00e9riaux"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>D\u00e8s le XVII\u00e8me si\u00e8cle, l&rsquo;Europe cherche le secret de fabrication de la\u00a0porcelaine, afin de diminuer les co\u00fbteuses importations d&rsquo;Extr\u00eame Orient.\u00a0Chantilly\u00a0devient un des premiers lieux de production de la porcelaine en France, sous l&rsquo;impulsion de\u00a0Louis IV Henri de Bourbon-Cond\u00e9, par ailleurs b\u00e2tisseur des Grandes \u00c9curies.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>La fabrication de la porcelaine de Chantilly requiert plusieurs \u00e9tapes.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><b>La pr\u00e9paration\u00a0de la p\u00e2te<\/b><\/p>\n<p>La porcelaine de Chantilly est dite \u00ab porcelaine tendre \u00bb c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire sans kaolin (elle est donc plus fragile et se raye plus facilement). En effet, les premiers gisements de kaolin ne seront d\u00e9couverts en France qu\u2019\u00e0 la fin des ann\u00e9es 1760. En attendant, les manufactures fran\u00e7aises doivent innover \u00e0 partir des ressources naturelles pr\u00e9sentes dans leurs sous-sols, d\u2019o\u00f9 des recettes sensiblement diff\u00e9rentes suivant les fabricants.<\/p>\n<p>A Chantilly, la p\u00e2te est obtenue par broyage de plusieurs \u00e9l\u00e9ments min\u00e9raux : du sable blanc et de la potasse ou de la soude. Cette poudre est cuite au four et donne ce qu\u2019on appelle la fritte. Afin d\u2019obtenir une p\u00e2te mall\u00e9able, on lie la fritte avec de la marne et de la gomme arabique. On ajoute aussi un peu de craie, d\u2019alun ou de gypse pour la blancheur. Dans ce dernier cas, la p\u00e2te crue est dispos\u00e9e dans un \u00e9tui en argile r\u00e9fractaire. La forme est cuite pour donner ce qu\u2019on appelle le biscuit (en raison des deux cuissons d\u00e9j\u00e0 op\u00e9r\u00e9es : celle de la fritte lors de la pr\u00e9paration de la p\u00e2te, puis de la forme). Pour cela les pi\u00e8ces sont tremp\u00e9es ou recouvertes au pinceau d\u2019une \u00ab couverte \u00bb ou \u00e9mail obtenu par broyage, m\u00e9lange et fonte de litharge, de sable de Fontainebleau, de silex calcin\u00e9, de potasse et de sel de soude.<br \/>\nJusqu\u2019aux ann\u00e9es 1750, afin de donner un aspect bien blanc et opaque au biscuit parfois jaun\u00e2tre en raison de la faible qualit\u00e9 de la p\u00e2te, on rajoute de l\u2019\u00e9tain \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9mail. Ce composant a la vertu d\u2019opacifier par sa blancheur. On parle alors d\u2019\u00e9mail stannif\u00e8re. Ensuite, une am\u00e9lioration de la qualit\u00e9 de la p\u00e2te permettra d\u2019abandonner l\u2019\u00e9mail stannif\u00e8re pour un simple \u00e9mail plombif\u00e8re transparent. Vers 1750 &#8211; 1760<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>La d\u00e9coration<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Les secrets entourant les techniques utilis\u00e9es mais aussi la disparition d\u2019archives nous laissent peu d\u2019informations concernant les couleurs utilis\u00e9es pour la porcelaine de Chantilly. On peut cependant distinguer deux grandes p\u00e9riodes et deux techniques.<br \/>\nLa premi\u00e8re p\u00e9riode s\u2019\u00e9tend des ann\u00e9es 1730 aux ann\u00e9es 1750 et correspond au style exotique dit \u00ab kakiemon \u00bb.<br \/>\nOn utilise alors une palette de couleurs intenses et lumineuses mais assez r\u00e9duite (bleu de cobalt, vert, turquoise, jaune p\u00e2le, rouge, brun violac\u00e9) dite<br \/>\nde \u00ab grand feu \u00bb (car cuite \u00e0 haute temp\u00e9rature entre 800 et 1400 degr\u00e9s). Les couleurs\u00a0sont pos\u00e9es au pinceau sur fond blanc en aplats avec un fin cerne de couleur brune. On dit que les couleurs sont chatironn\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p>A partir des ann\u00e9es 1750, Chantilly obtient gr\u00e2ce aux indiscr\u00e9tions d\u2019un peintre de S\u00e8vres la technique de la palette dite de \u00ab petit feu \u00bb car les couleurs sont cuites \u00e0 basse temp\u00e9rature (120 \u00e0 800 degr\u00e9s). La gamme des couleurs s\u2019\u00e9largit alors \u00e0 plusieurs dizaines de couleurs permettant nuances, transparences, jeux d\u2019\u00e9paisseurs, demi-teintes et insuffle ainsi un renouveau \u00e0 la d\u00e9coration. L\u2019adoption de cette palette correspond en effet \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9mergence d\u2019un nouveau style naturaliste europ\u00e9en compos\u00e9 de fleurs, d\u2019oiseaux, de sc\u00e8nes galantes, en polychromie mais<br \/>\naussi en cama\u00efeux.
