Livrant de somptueux services pour la table et des ensembles prestigieux comme la toilette de l\u2019imp\u00e9ratrice Marie-Louise et le berceau du Roi de Rome, Odiot est l\u2019un des plus illustres orf\u00e8vres sous l\u2019Empire et la Restauration.<\/p>\n<p>Le mus\u00e9e des Arts d\u00e9coratifs conserve un ensemble exceptionnel de 33 pi\u00e8ces d\u2019orf\u00e8vrerie et de 176 dessins originaux de l\u2019atelier d\u2019Odiot class\u00e9s \u0153uvres d\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat patrimonial majeur. Cette vari\u00e9t\u00e9 typologique fait revivre le faste de la table et le raffinement de la toilette au d\u00e9but du <span class=\"caps\">XIX<\/span><sup class=\"typo_exposants\">e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle.<\/p>\n<p>Les dessins proposent diff\u00e9rentes versions d\u2019un m\u00eame mod\u00e8le en d\u00e9clinant les appliques d\u2019ornement, les anses ou les prises. Les prises, les anses, les pieds et les appliques d\u2019ornement sont pr\u00e9texte \u00e0 d\u00e9ployer un vocabulaire ornemental foisonnant issu de l\u2019Antiquit\u00e9. Autour de Bacchus et de son cort\u00e8ge, central dans l\u2019iconographie des pi\u00e8ces et dessins d\u2019Odiot, sont pr\u00e9sents H\u00e9b\u00e9, C\u00e9r\u00e8s, L\u00e9da, V\u00e9nus, Adonis, Flore ou encore des all\u00e9gories de la Victoire. Choisis pour leur plasticit\u00e9, les serpents, cygnes et autres sir\u00e8nes pr\u00eatent leur souplesse et leur sinuosit\u00e9 au dessin des anses, tandis que les sphinges ail\u00e9es monopodes et les griffes de lion constituent des motifs d\u00e9sign\u00e9s pour former les pieds des pi\u00e8ces. Les frises ornant les panses sont peupl\u00e9es de rinceaux habit\u00e9s de panth\u00e8res ou de pampres alternant avec des roseaux, des \u00e9pis de bl\u00e9 et des dauphins.<\/p>\n<p>Donn\u00e9s par Odiot lui-m\u00eame \u00e0 la chambre des Pairs en 1835 dans le but d\u2019\u0153uvrer \u00e0 sa propre post\u00e9rit\u00e9 mais \u00e9galement de servir son art en suscitant l\u2019\u00e9mulation chez ses successeurs, les 31 mod\u00e8les connaissent une histoire complexe. Le mus\u00e9e du \u00ab<small class=\"fine\">\u00a0<\/small>beau dans l\u2019utile<small class=\"fine\">\u00a0<\/small>\u00bb voit le jour en 1882, avec pour but de favoriser les liens entre culture et industrie en offrant mod\u00e8les et r\u00e9f\u00e9rences aux ouvriers et artisans. Entre le v\u0153u d\u2019Odiot et le nouveau mus\u00e9e, la convergence est \u00e9vidente. De fait en 1892 les mod\u00e8les d\u2019Odiot sont attribu\u00e9s \u00e0 titre de d\u00e9p\u00f4t au mus\u00e9e des Arts d\u00e9coratifs.<\/p>\n<p>En 1907, le mus\u00e9e des Arts d\u00e9coratifs prend la d\u00e9cision de faire dorer et argenter les mod\u00e8les en bronze. R\u00e9alis\u00e9e par la maison Christofle en 1907-1908, cette op\u00e9ration devait conf\u00e9rer aux pi\u00e8ces l\u2019aspect habituel de l\u2019orf\u00e8vrerie. Elles sont d\u00e9finitivement port\u00e9es sur l\u2019inventaire du mus\u00e9e des Arts d\u00e9coratifs en 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Les mod\u00e8les t\u00e9moignent d\u2019une grande finesse d\u2019ex\u00e9cution. Les diff\u00e9rents \u00e9l\u00e9ments, assembl\u00e9s par un syst\u00e8me de fixation \u00e0 froid par vis et \u00e9crous, ont \u00e9t\u00e9 cisel\u00e9s afin de mettre en valeur le relief des ornements, tandis que les fonds amatis jouent du contraste entre les surfaces mates et brillantes. En bronze selon la terminologie employ\u00e9e par Odiot, les pi\u00e8ces sont en fait, comme l\u2019indiquent de r\u00e9centes analyses men\u00e9es par le Centre de Recherche et de Restauration des Mus\u00e9es de France, ex\u00e9cut\u00e9es en laiton.<\/p>\n<p>La richesse du fonds Odiot du mus\u00e9e des Arts d\u00e9coratifs r\u00e9side dans la compl\u00e9mentarit\u00e9 entre les pi\u00e8ces d\u2019orf\u00e8vrerie et les dessins conserv\u00e9s.
