L&rsquo;exposition vise \u00e0 mettre en \u00e9vidence \u00e0 la fois l\u2019\u00e9volution artistique et la diversit\u00e9 des sources d\u2019inspiration de Charles Nicolas Dodin.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #ff0000;\">A<\/span>u long de ses quarante-neuf ann\u00e9es \u00e0 la Manufacture, Dodin a contribu\u00e9 aux plus grandes commandes pass\u00e9es par les rois et leur entourage, en particulier les ma\u00eetresses de Louis XV, et par des souverains \u00e9trangers, comme Catherine II de Russie. A travers ces \u0153uvres de prestige, l\u2019exposition retrace l\u2019\u00e9volution artistique tr\u00e8s lisible et \u00e9clairante de l\u2019\u0153uvre de Dodin, \u00e0 l\u2019instar de celle d\u2019un peintre de chevalet contemporain.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #ff0000;\">E<\/span>lle met \u00e9galement en lumi\u00e8re la diversit\u00e9 des sources d\u2019inspiration de Dodin, par la pr\u00e9sentation des gravures ou des tableaux qui lui ont servi de sources d\u2019inspiration. Ces \u0153uvres permettent de montrer les correspondances tr\u00e8s profondes qui, dans la seconde moiti\u00e9 du XVIIIe si\u00e8cle, existaient entre les arts (peintures, dessins, estampes, sculptures, m\u00e9dailles, arts du feu) et l\u2019extraordinaire \u00e9mulation artistique qui devait en r\u00e9sulter.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #ff0000;\">D<\/span>odin a essentiellement \u00e9t\u00e9, comme on le disait au XVIIIe si\u00e8cle, un peintre \u00ab\u00a0en miniature\u00a0\u00bb, ou un peintre de figures, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire qu\u2019il a exerc\u00e9 ses talents dans le genre le plus \u00e9lev\u00e9 dans la hi\u00e9rarchie en vigueur \u00e0 la Manufacture. Azevedo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Sa Vie et\u00a0 Sa Carri\u00e8re<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #ff0000;\">N<\/span>\u00e9 et baptis\u00e9 \u00e0 Versailles en 1734, Dodin est le second fils de Nicolas Dodin, marchand \u00e9picier \u00e0 Versailles, et de Marie de Nauroy, fille d\u2019un marchand tapissier. En 1756, il fait la connaissance de sa future \u00e9pouse, Jeanne Chabry, fille d\u2019un ma\u00eetre sculpteur actif \u00e0 la Manufacture \u00e0 partir de 1750. C\u00e9l\u00e9br\u00e9 en 1762, leur mariage donne naissance \u00e0 cinq enfants, de 1763 \u00e0 1778. Dodin meurt en 1803, \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de 69 ans, apr\u00e8s avoir consacr\u00e9 quarante-neuf ans de son existence \u00e0 la Manufacture.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #ff0000;\">D<\/span>odin entre \u00e0 la Manufacture de porcelaine de Vincennes en 1754, \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de 20 ans, et la suit lors de son d\u00e9m\u00e9nagement \u00e0 S\u00e8vres en 1756. Embauch\u00e9 comme peintre de figures, il exerce tout au long de sa carri\u00e8re ses talents dans ce genre qui est le plus \u00e9lev\u00e9 dans la hi\u00e9rarchie en vigueur \u00e0 la Manufacture. De 1754 \u00e0 1757, il peint essentiellement des amours en cama\u00efeu ou en polychromie \u00e0 la mani\u00e8re de Fran\u00e7ois Boucher et de ses \u00e9mules. De 1758 \u00e0 1761, il est attir\u00e9 par les sujets flamands ou hollandais, notamment des gravures d\u2019apr\u00e8s David T\u00e9niers le Jeune. De 1760 \u00e0 1763, il ex\u00e9cute des d\u00e9cors chinois, inspir\u00e9s \u00e0 la fois par des \u0153uvres d&rsquo;artistes fran\u00e7ais et par des sources orientales. A partir de 1760, il travaille d\u2019apr\u00e8s les grands ma\u00eetres contemporains, parmi lesquels Jean-Baptiste Oudry, Carle van Loo, Fran\u00e7ois Boucher, Fran\u00e7ois-Hubert Drouais et Jean-Honor\u00e9 Fragonard. Enfin, sous la R\u00e9volution, il peint \u00e0 plusieurs reprises des all\u00e9gories r\u00e9publicaines.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #ff0000;\">D<\/span>ans le m\u00eame temps, Dodin s\u2019adapte \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9volution des formes et des d\u00e9cors en usage \u00e0 la Manufacture, depuis le style rocaille le plus affirm\u00e9 jusqu\u2019au n\u00e9o-classicisme le plus abouti. Il est par ailleurs un peintre remarquable de plaques en porcelaine tendre mont\u00e9es sur des meubles, des pendules, des barom\u00e8tres ou encore des petites bo\u00eetes. Il est aussi le premier artiste de S\u00e8vres \u00e0 avoir peint des plaques en porcelaine destin\u00e9es \u00e0 \u00eatre accroch\u00e9es au mur et encadr\u00e9es comme de v\u00e9ritables toiles peintes.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">LES STYLES DE DODIN<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Au long de sa carri\u00e8re Dodin a diversifi\u00e9 ses sources d\u2019inspiration et peint des d\u00e9cors dans diff\u00e9rents styles, tant\u00f4t tr\u00e8s en vogue chez les peintres de la Manufacture, tant\u00f4t qu&rsquo;il \u00e9tait le seul \u00e0 pratiquer. Ce choix iconographique, pr\u00e9dominant au milieu des ann\u00e9es 1750, t\u00e9moigne du retentissement exceptionnel de l\u2019\u0153uvre du grand peintre dans les arts d\u00e9coratifs au milieu du XVIIIe si\u00e8cle.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000; font-size: 14pt;\">D<\/span>\u00e8s 1745, celui-ci a en effet fourni des gravures puis des dessins \u00e0 la Manufacture de Vincennes, cr\u00e9\u00e9e en 1740 sous la protection du roi. Nombreux sont alors les peintres de la Manufacture \u00e0 s\u2019inspirer de ces motifs, enfant v\u00eatus de costumes contemporains et amours nus. Dodin se les approprie si bien qu\u2019il sait en jouer sans les copier textuellement. Madame de Pompadour, qui a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le d\u00e9cisif dans ce d\u00e9m\u00e9nagement, rapproche ainsi la Manufacture de sa r\u00e9sidence pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9e, Bellevue, en m\u00eame temps que du ch\u00e2teau Versailles. Ainsi, les \u0153uvres de Wouvermans, Falens, Oudry, Carle van Loo, Boucher, Drouais, Eisen, Le Prince, Greuze, Fragonard, Pierre, Moreau le Jeune, Jean-Jacques Lagren\u00e9e et d\u2019autres constituent-elles les principales sources d\u2019inspiration du peintre, durant une quarantaine d\u2019ann\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #ff0000;\">P<\/span>armi les peintres fran\u00e7ais contemporains de l\u2019artiste, Fran\u00e7ois Boucher est sans doute le peintre dont les \u0153uvres furent le plus reproduites par Dodin.
