Les portraits des rois et reines sont, en effet, une pr\u00e9cieuse source iconographique concernant ce tr\u00e9sor, enrichi par chaque souverain fran\u00e7ais, et qui a partiellement travers\u00e9 les p\u00e9rip\u00e9ties de l\u2019Histoire. Si de nombreuses parures et pierres le composant ont disparu, les \u0153uvres du ch\u00e2teau de Versailles les font aujourd\u2019hui revivre dans le cadre prestigieux du logis royal au ch\u00e2teau d\u2019Angers.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qL3zKDRsOKU\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Enfin, admirer la parure dans le portrait revient \u00e0 s\u2019interroger sur l\u2019image que le mod\u00e8le a voulu donner de lui-m\u00eame, alors qu\u2019il se pr\u00e9sente dans ses plus beaux atours. \u00c0 cette analyse s\u2019ajoute une dimension artistique : la parure est l\u2019occasion pour le peintre de montrer son talent et sa virtuosit\u00e9 pour rendre l\u2019\u00e9clat des pierreries, perles et diamants. La sc\u00e9nographie de l\u2019exposition s\u2019articule de fa\u00e7on chronologique en plusieurs sections r\u00e9parties successivement dans les diff\u00e9rents espaces du logis royal du ch\u00e2teau d\u2019Angers : le XVIIe si\u00e8cle, le XVIIIe si\u00e8cle et le XIXe si\u00e8cle, permettant de mieux saisir l\u2019\u00e9volution des usages et des formes des bijoux soumis, comme le costume, \u00e0 la mode et au go\u00fbt du temps.. RMN-Grand Palais) \/ Christophe Fouin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Parcours de visite<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Premi\u00e8re section : Le Grand Si\u00e8cle<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Consacr\u00e9e au XVIIe si\u00e8cle et plus particuli\u00e8rement au r\u00e8gne de Louis XIV, la premi\u00e8re section comprend onze peintures, quatre gravures et une gouache.<\/p>\n<p>D\u00e8s son plus jeune \u00e2ge, le go\u00fbt du roi est attis\u00e9 par le cardinal Mazarin qui fait miroiter les pierres devant ses yeux pour en appr\u00e9cier l\u2019\u00e9clat. Il est \u00e9galement entretenu par sa m\u00e8re, Anne d\u2019Autriche, passionn\u00e9e de diamants et de perles. RMN-Grand Palais) \/ Christophe Fouin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Pendant la p\u00e9riode fastueuse du r\u00e8gne, il ne se passe pas une ann\u00e9e sans qu\u2019un nouveau diamant et autre pierre pr\u00e9cieuse ne viennent enrichir le Tr\u00e9sor royal, comme le diamant de Guise de 1665 ou le grand saphir ayant appartenu \u00e0 la collection Ruspoli. Apport majeur \u00e0 cette collection d\u00e9j\u00e0 importante, Mazarin l\u00e8gue au roi en 1661 dix-huit diamants qui portent son nom, dont le \u00ab Grand Sancy \u00bb, le plus grand diamant blanc connu en Europe. Chaque acquisition fait l\u2019objet d\u2019une nouvelle n\u00e9gociation qui est souvent le fruit d\u2019une rivalit\u00e9 entre monarques pour obtenir l\u2019objet convoit\u00e9. Les modes des tailles se diversifient : la taille en pointe, en table, de c\u0153ur, en pendeloque, en ovale, en losange, en rose \u00e0 plusieurs facettes, et surtout la taille en brillant \u00e0 partir de 1660. Les diamants port\u00e9s en parure ornent l\u2019habit, les boucles de chaussure, le chapeau, et la poign\u00e9e d\u2019\u00e9p\u00e9e. Ils vont de pair avec la position occup\u00e9e \u00e0 la Cour : les apparences vestimentaires construisent le rang social, affirment le niveau de fortune et r\u00e9v\u00e8lent le pouvoir. Jouissant d\u2019une r\u00e9putation bien \u00e9tablie d\u00e8s le XVIIe si\u00e8cle, les joailliers parisiens gagnent sous les r\u00e8gnes de Louis XV et de Louis XVI un renom sans pareil. Leur art atteint alors des sommets de perfection technique et d\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9gance. Mont\u00e9es, d\u00e9mont\u00e9es puis remont\u00e9es, les gemmes ajoutent leur \u00e9clat \u00e0 tous les grands moments du r\u00e8gne, le \u00ab R\u00e9gent \u00bb tenant une place particuli\u00e8re dans cet ensemble. Ce diamant de 140 carats ne pr\u00e9sentant aucun d\u00e9faut avait \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9couvert en 1698 dans la province indienne de Golconde. En 1714, Louis XIV, r\u00e9gnant sur une France appauvrie, avait d\u00fb renoncer \u00e0 l\u2019acheter. Mais d\u00e8s la deuxi\u00e8me ann\u00e9e du r\u00e8gne de Louis XV, Philippe d\u2019Orl\u00e9ans la propose au conseil de R\u00e9gence. Cette acquisition accro\u00eet consid\u00e9rablement la valeur du Tr\u00e9sor royal.<\/p>\n<p>Sous Louis XVI et \u00e0 la fin du XVIIIe si\u00e8cle, la reine Marie-Antoinette et les princesses c\u00e8dent \u00e0 la mode \u00e0 l\u2019antique. Le costume devient alors plus simple et les parures bien plus discr\u00e8tes. La sensibilit\u00e9 n\u00e9oclassique de la fin du si\u00e8cle tend en effet au d\u00e9pouillement et \u00e0 la recherche d\u2019un certain naturel. Rocaille sous Louis XV, le dessin des objets orf\u00e9vr\u00e9s s\u2019\u00e9pure. Les pi\u00e8ces de grand corps, pesantes et cruelles au corps f\u00e9minin, se font plus rares ; on porte la robe de gaulle, robe-chemise de mousseline blanche et la parure se r\u00e9duit parfois \u00e0 une simple boucle de ceinture, tandis que les anneaux \u00e0 la mode cr\u00e9ole concurrencent les riches pendants d\u2019oreilles d\u2019autrefois.<\/p>\n<p>Cette section d\u00e9montre aussi une certaine internationalisation dans la cr\u00e9ation et le go\u00fbt : elle souligne les points communs, d\u2019une Cour \u00e0 l\u2019autre, en particulier celles de France, d\u2019Autriche et d\u2019Espagne.<\/p>\n<p>Au moment de la R\u00e9volution, la plupart des parures embl\u00e9matiques de l\u2019Ancien R\u00e9gime disparaissent. Mais si de c\u00e9l\u00e8bres pierres ressurgissent parfois sur le march\u00e9, nombre de joyaux de la Couronne ne sont plus connus que par les inventaires, ou encore des tableaux qui en gardent la m\u00e9moire.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Troisi\u00e8me section : Le si\u00e8cle des monarchies<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cette partie consacr\u00e9e au XIXe si\u00e8cle comprend neuf peintures. Le go\u00fbt de la parure rena\u00eet apr\u00e8s la R\u00e9volution, mais celle-ci ayant dispers\u00e9 le Tr\u00e9sor royal (apr\u00e8s la vente d&rsquo;une partie des Diamants de la Couronne et le pillage du Garde-Meuble en 1792), il faut reconstituer ce tr\u00e9sor, ainsi que les cassettes des princesses.<\/p>\n<p>Napol\u00e9on ayant choisi de se faire sacrer d\u2019une mani\u00e8re tout autant politique que symbolique, il lui faut retrouver les embl\u00e8mes du sacre, notamment les Honneurs de Charlemagne, qui avaient \u00e9t\u00e9 partiellement d\u00e9truits ou d\u00e9mont\u00e9s. L\u2019orf\u00e8vre et tabletier Martin-Guillaume Biennais se voit ainsi confier la restauration des objets existants et la r\u00e9alisation des manquants : couronnes imp\u00e9riales, sceptre et main de justice, globe imp\u00e9rial, collier de la L\u00e9gion d\u2019honneur, anneaux, etc. Par ailleurs, l\u2019Empereur commande au joaillier Marie-Etienne Nitot des parures pour l\u2019imp\u00e9ratrice Jos\u00e9phine, ainsi que quelques \u00e9l\u00e9ments de parure en diamants pour lui-m\u00eame. Lors de son divorce, en 1809, l\u2019Empereur fait remonter les parures d\u2019\u00c9tat pour sa nouvelle \u00e9pouse, Marie-Louise. Nitot fils a, par la suite, le monopole des nombreuses nouvelles commandes du couple imp\u00e9rial, avec une s\u00e9rie d\u2019extraordinaires parures de diamants, perles et pierres de couleurs. Une grande continuit\u00e9 relie la fin de l&rsquo;Ancien R\u00e9gime et le Premier Empire dans le go\u00fbt prononc\u00e9 pour les bijoux d&rsquo;inspiration antique, et une relative simplicit\u00e9. Toutes les tendances et toutes les techniques n\u00e9es de la fin de l\u2019Ancien R\u00e9gime sont ainsi encore tr\u00e8s appr\u00e9ci\u00e9es : perles, cam\u00e9es, peintures et miniatures sous verre ou de micro-mosa\u00efques.<\/p>\n<p>La restauration des Bourbons, avec le r\u00e8gne de Louis XVIII, poursuit l\u2019enrichissement des joyaux de la Couronne, essentiellement autour des deux femmes de la famille royale, la duchesse d&rsquo;Angoul\u00eame et la duchesse de Berry. Le joaillier Paul-Nicolas M\u00e9ni\u00e8re d\u00e9monte l\u2019ensemble des parures pour en faire dispara\u00eetre les symboles imp\u00e9riaux et les mettre au go\u00fbt du jour. Les acquisitions de la Restauration r\u00e9v\u00e8lent encore un go\u00fbt prononc\u00e9 pour les riches garnitures de diamants, mais aussi un int\u00e9r\u00eat marqu\u00e9 pour les pierres de couleurs, turquoises, opales, am\u00e9thystes, peu pr\u00e9sentes dans la joaillerie de l\u2019Ancien R\u00e9gime. La p\u00e9riode conna\u00eet le d\u00e9veloppement extraordinaire d\u2019un go\u00fbt pour le pass\u00e9. C\u2019est l\u2019\u00e2ge d\u2019or du bijou romantique qui puise son inspiration dans les formes et les d\u00e9cors anciens, voit le d\u00e9veloppement de proc\u00e9d\u00e9s comme l\u2019or repouss\u00e9, les filigranes, les \u00e9maux, ou les figures en ronde bosse.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019accession de Louis-Philippe au tr\u00f4ne porte un coup d\u2019arr\u00eat \u00e0 l\u2019enrichissement du Tr\u00e9sor de la Couronne, jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la fin de son r\u00e8gne. En effet, ni lui, ni son \u00e9pouse ne portent les joyaux de la Couronne. La maison d\u2019Orl\u00e9ans poss\u00e8de cependant une cassette personnelle riche de tr\u00e8s belles parures qui suffisent au couple royal. D\u2019une fa\u00e7on g\u00e9n\u00e9rale, la monarchie de Juillet voit la joaillerie s\u2019\u00e9carter des proc\u00e9d\u00e9s artisanaux pour adopter des techniques nouvelles n\u00e9es de la r\u00e9volution industrielle. Ces nouveaux d\u00e9veloppements techniques ouvrent le march\u00e9 de la joaillerie \u00e0 une client\u00e8le plus diverse, bourgeoise, voire moins fortun\u00e9e. \u00c0 l\u2019arriv\u00e9e de Napol\u00e9on III, les joyaux de la Couronne sont une nouvelle fois modernis\u00e9s, remont\u00e9s pour la nouvelle imp\u00e9ratrice et largement compl\u00e9t\u00e9s de nouveaux achats de pierres et de parures. Le retour \u00e0 une vie de Cour fastueuse va de pair avec un go\u00fbt&nbsp;toujours vif pour les diamants, mais outre des parures assez classiques et intemporelles, entrent \u00e9galement dans le Tr\u00e9sor de la Couronne des pi\u00e8ces d\u2019esprit oriental, un diad\u00e8me de style grec et beaucoup de pi\u00e8ces d\u2019inspiration naturaliste, bouquets, guirlandes, girandoles de fleurs en diamants comme un retour \u00e0 une inspiration d\u2019Ancien R\u00e9gime. La chute du Second Empire marque la fin d\u2019un \u00e2ge d\u2019or de la joaillerie fran\u00e7aise.
