Rome, Londres, Venise et Les collections du Prince de Liechtenstein, l\u2019H\u00f4tel de Caumont Centre d\u2019Art \u00e0 Aix-en-Provence met \u00e0 l\u2019honneur jusqu&rsquo;au 18 sept 2016, l\u2019\u0153uvre de Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775 &#8211; 1851), figure majeure de la peinture anglaise du XIXe si\u00e8cle. L\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat de Turner pour les th\u00e9ories scientifiques et philosophiques sur la couleur, de Newton \u00e0 Goethe, est largement illustr\u00e9 dans cette salle, ainsi que son emploi tout \u00e0 fait avant-gardiste de pigments et techniques in\u00e9dites. Si Venise offre un sujet incontournable, gr\u00e2ce aux reflets lumineux dans l\u2019eau de la lagune, la Provence n\u2019est pas moins fascinante aux yeux de Turner. Le public retiendra surtout les qualit\u00e9s de ce coloriste prodigieux et subtil connaisseur des effets optiques et \u00e9motifs de la couleur, dont Claude Monet aurait dit qu\u2019il savait \u00ab peindre les yeux ouverts \u00bb. Vers la fin de sa vie, Turner a pass\u00e9 beaucoup de temps dans ce petit village c\u00f4tier, attir\u00e9 par sa lumi\u00e8re toute particuli\u00e8re.
