Une \u00e8re nouvelle s\u2019ouvre : celle de la communication qui va transformer les relations ; l\u2019Europe et le monde changent d\u2019\u00e9chelle. Les contr\u00e9es lointaines sont d\u00e9sormais accessibles dans des d\u00e9lais inimaginables quelques d\u00e9cennies plus t\u00f4t. Un nouveau d\u00e9fi est \u00e0 relever \u00e0 l\u2019aube du XXe si\u00e8cle : vaincre l\u2019inconfort. Ren\u00e9 Lalique, dont le talent de verrier \u00e9tait d\u00e9j\u00e0 reconnu au niveau international, va ainsi contribuer \u00e0 la d\u00e9coration des paquebots Paris, \u00cele-deFrance et Normandie, avec notamment la cr\u00e9ation de luminaires. Pour les trains, en particulier le C\u00f4te d\u2019Azur Pullman Express, il imagine diff\u00e9rents agencements, avec des panneaux d\u00e9coratifs en verre. Les automobiles s\u00e9duiront \u00e9galement Ren\u00e9 Lalique qui cr\u00e9era pr\u00e8s d\u2019une trentaine de bouchons de radiateur entre 1925 et 1931.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019atmosph\u00e8re raffin\u00e9e de ces palaces flottants ou sur rail, de m\u00eame que la subtile touche artistique apport\u00e9e par les mascottes en verre, sont autant de th\u00e9matiques d\u00e9clin\u00e9es dans l\u2019exposition Lalique et l\u2019art du voyage.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7gsxS8aAe1Y\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u00c0 BORD DES PAQUEBOTS DE LA TRANSAT<\/p>\n<p>Parmi les navires l\u00e9gendaires, les grands paquebots du XXe si\u00e8cle occupent une place toute particuli\u00e8re. Symboles de la r\u00e9volution industrielle, ils \u00e9voquent aussi un monde disparu o\u00f9 le voyage se comptait en jours plus qu\u2019en heures et o\u00f9 le temps pass\u00e9 en mer permettait la pleine conscience de l\u2019espace parcouru.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019histoire des paquebots est \u00e9troitement li\u00e9e au transport du courrier, l\u2019\u00c9tat confiant ce service \u00e0 des compagnies priv\u00e9es. Nemeth<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>D\u00e8s 1864, le paquebot Washington, \u00e9quip\u00e9 de roues \u00e0 aubes, inaugure la ligne r\u00e9guli\u00e8re Le Havre &#8211; New York. L\u2019\u00e9migration assure alors le d\u00e9veloppement des lignes transatlantiques : entre la fin du XIXe si\u00e8cle et les ann\u00e9es 1920, pr\u00e8s de 72 millions d\u2019europ\u00e9ens quittent le Vieux Continent pour peupler le Nouveau Monde.<\/p>\n<p>Avec le XXe si\u00e8cle s\u2019ouvre l\u2019\u00e8re des grands paquebots. Face \u00e0 la concurrence \u00e9trang\u00e8re, la Compagnie g\u00e9n\u00e9rale transatlantique privil\u00e9gie le service et l\u2019h\u00f4tellerie pour attirer une client\u00e8le ais\u00e9e, mettant ainsi l\u2019accent sur le savoir-faire fran\u00e7ais.<\/p>\n<p>Le luxe des am\u00e9nagements, la qualit\u00e9 de la table, les souvenirs des nuits de f\u00eates illuminent encore la m\u00e9moire des palaces flottants. Pour d\u00e9corer ses navires amiraux, tels Paris (1921), \u00cele-de-France (1927) et Normandie (1935), la Transat fait appel \u00e0 la fine fleur des artisans, des manufactures et des artistes fran\u00e7ais. La conqu\u00eate de la vitesse sera au c\u0153ur de cette extraordinaire aventure.<\/p>\n<p>Tr\u00e8s t\u00f4t, les propri\u00e9taires s\u2019ing\u00e9nient \u00e0 personnaliser leur v\u00e9hicule, \u00e0 le rendre unique. La premi\u00e8re utilisation d\u2019un bouchon de radiateur est attribu\u00e9e \u00e0 un anglais, Lord Montagu of Beaulieu. En 1896, il place sur le tableau de bord de sa Daimler 4 cylindres, une statuette de saint Christophe, le patron des voyageurs. Leur forme exprime souvent la vitesse ou l\u2019endurance ; personnages mythologiques ou animaux sauvages sont \u00e9galement repr\u00e9sent\u00e9s. Parmi les plus connues, on retiendra le Spirit of Ecstasy de Rolls-Royce, le casque ail\u00e9 du Herm\u00e8s de Chrysler ou encore l\u2019El\u00e9phant dansant de Bugatti.<\/p>\n<p>Toujours sensible aux go\u00fbts de son temps, Lalique innove et cr\u00e9e une trentaine de mod\u00e8les de bouchons de radiateur en verre entre 1925 et 1931.
