A l\u2019occasion de cet anniversaire, Le Louvre propose de revenir sur l\u2019histoire du Mus\u00e9e des Monuments fran\u00e7ais cr\u00e9e par Alexandre Lenoir, peintre et infatigable passionn\u00e9, qui \u0153uvra pour sauver le patrimoine fran\u00e7ais des destructions.<\/p>\n<p>Le mus\u00e9e des Monuments fran\u00e7ais, fond\u00e9 par Alexandre Lenoir en 1795 pour sauver les monuments d\u00e9truits par la R\u00e9volution, fut le deuxi\u00e8me mus\u00e9e national apr\u00e8s le mus\u00e9e du Louvre en 1793. Le d\u00e9partement des Arts graphiques du Louvre a s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9 les plus belles vues du mus\u00e9e disparu tir\u00e9es du tr\u00e8s riche fonds de dessins donn\u00e9 par les h\u00e9ritiers d\u2019Alexandre Lenoir. L\u2019exposition pr\u00e9sente le r\u00f4le pionnier qu\u2019a eu Alexandre Lenoir, fervent d\u00e9fenseur du patrimoine, en tant que conservateur de mus\u00e9e et mus\u00e9ographe. Elle explore aussi l\u2019implantation et l\u2019histoire du mus\u00e9e des Monuments fran\u00e7ais, dont la pr\u00e9sentation eut une influence notable sur la sensibilit\u00e9 et les arts de l\u2019\u00e9poque. Lenoir avait une conception \u00e9largie du patrimoine fran\u00e7ais, depuis l\u2019\u00e2ge celtique jusqu\u2019\u00e0 son temps, sans oublier l\u2019art antique classique et la Renaissance. Alors que le Louvre avait le monopole pour exposer la peinture et l\u2019art antique, Lenoir construisit une collection de sculptures, de vitraux et de quelques objets d\u2019art. Il enrichit son mus\u00e9e non seulement par les saisies r\u00e9volutionnaires, mais par des achats, des transferts et des \u00e9changes. Li\u00e9 \u00e0 David, qui avait form\u00e9 son \u00e9pouse, peintre elle-m\u00eame, il d\u00e9ploya son \u00e9nergie au sauvetage des \u0153uvres d\u2019art, \u00e0 l\u2019am\u00e9nagement du mus\u00e9e des Monuments fran\u00e7ais, de 1795 \u00e0 1816, et aux nombreux catalogues tr\u00e8s document\u00e9s qui expliquaient l\u2019histoire, le contexte, voire les costumes des personnages repr\u00e9sent\u00e9s. Il eut aussi une activit\u00e9 scientifique ambitieuse, quelques fois brouillonne, multipliant articles et essais dans des domaines vari\u00e9s, de l\u2019\u00e9gyptologie \u00e0 l\u2019art contemporain, en passant par l\u2019arch\u00e9ologie nationale ou l\u2019histoire de la peinture sur verre, et publiant une histoire des arts en France depuis les origines.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Le mus\u00e9e des Monuments fran\u00e7ais, fond\u00e9 par Alexandre Lenoir en 1795, fut le deuxi\u00e8me mus\u00e9e national apr\u00e8s le mus\u00e9e du Louvre en 1793.
