La grande force de l\u2019exposition \u00ab Le Si\u00e8cle de Fran\u00e7ois Ier \u00bb est de permettre de retrouver le go\u00fbt et l\u2019intimit\u00e9 de Fran\u00e7ois Ier, \u00e0 travers ses \u0153uvres d\u2019art et sa biblioth\u00e8que. Elles proviennent en tr\u00e8s grande partie des collections de Chantilly, en particulier du Cabinet des Livres et des fonds de dessins tr\u00e8s riches du Domaine. Pouvoir les confronter ou les rapprocher avec plusieurs pr\u00eats majeurs, consentis \u00e0 l\u2019occasion de cette exposition par de grandes institutions culturelles (en particulier le Louvre et la Biblioth\u00e8que nationale de France) permet de rendre leur continuit\u00e9 et leur int\u00e9grit\u00e9 aux collections produites et rassembl\u00e9es au si\u00e8cle de Fran\u00e7ois Ier.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/guZOk1ntSnY\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Du Roi guerrier au Roi m\u00e9c\u00e8ne <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fran\u00e7ois Ier est aujourd\u2019hui une ic\u00f4ne charismatique et victorieuse, l\u2019un des monarques les plus connus des Fran- \u00e7ais. L\u2019exposition montre comment s\u2019est construit le mythe, laissant appara\u00eetre un roi conscient du pouvoir de l\u2019image et des mots pour r\u00e9\u00e9crire sa propre histoire.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pr\u00e9sence du roi <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>L\u2019exposition s\u2019ouvrira sur plusieurs \u0153uvres repr\u00e9sentant Fran\u00e7ois Ier \u00e0 diff\u00e9rentes \u00e9tapes de sa vie. En effet, le destin royal est irr\u00e9m\u00e9diablement li\u00e9 \u00e0 la gloire de Marignan en 1515 puis \u00e0 la d\u00e9faite de Pavie, 10 ans plus tard. Alors que Fran\u00e7ois Ier est fait prisonnier \u00e0 Pavie par l\u2019arm\u00e9e de Charles Quint, il r\u00e9invente la bataille de Marignan o\u00f9 il aurait \u00e9t\u00e9 adoub\u00e9 par le fameux chevalier Bayard. C\u2019est la parfaite justification de son emprisonnement, car un chevalier ne doit jamais fuir au combat m\u00eame au risque d\u2019\u00eatre captur\u00e9. De roi vaincu, Francois Ier passe au statut h\u00e9ro\u00efque de chevalier emprisonn\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019exposition pr\u00e9sentera aux visiteurs des pi\u00e8ces illustrant tous les aspects de cette d\u00e9cennie, de la victoire \u00e0 la d\u00e9faite en passant par l\u2019emprisonnement et les tractations diplomatiques menant \u00e0 la lib\u00e9ration. Il faut notamment citer les apologies de Madrid, deux trait\u00e9s faisant la critique et l\u2019\u00e9loge du trait\u00e9 de Madrid sign\u00e9 par Fran\u00e7ois Ier. Il pr\u00e9voit sa lib\u00e9ration en \u00e9change de ses deux fils Fran\u00e7ois et Henri, envoy\u00e9s en captivit\u00e9 \u00e0 la Cour espagnole. Tr\u00e8s t\u00f4t, sa m\u00e8re Louise de Savoie mobilise mages, astrologues et pr\u00e9cepteurs, comme Fran\u00e7ois Demoulins, pour pr\u00e9parer son fils \u00e0 gouverner la France. C\u2019est elle qui assure la r\u00e9gence lorsqu\u2019il part au combat et n\u00e9gocie sa lib\u00e9ration suite \u00e0 la d\u00e9faite de Pavie.<\/p>\n<p>Sa s\u0153ur Marguerite d\u2019Angoul\u00eame, devenue Marguerite de Navarre, a un r\u00f4le important dans la strat\u00e9gie diplomatique de la cour de France mais aussi dans la production litt\u00e9raire de l\u2019\u00e9poque. Sa femme \u00c9l\u00e9onore d\u2019Autriche, ou encore sa ma\u00eetresse la duchesse d\u2019\u00c9tampes font \u00e9galement partie de ces figures f\u00e9minines c\u00e9l\u00e8bres entourant le roi. Il n\u2019est d\u2019ailleurs pas \u00e9tonnant que le temp\u00e9rament d\u2019artiste de Fran\u00e7ois Ier se soit r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 par des po\u00e9sies m\u00e9connues adress\u00e9es \u00e0 certaines de ces femmes. Il suivait en cela les recommandations du fameux Balthazar Castiglione, dans son livre du courtisan, mais aussi un penchant personnel suscit\u00e9 par sa m\u00e8re Louise de Savoie, grande bibliophile.<\/p>\n<p>Le tournant des ann\u00e9es 1530 marque ce basculement, ce passage du Roi guerrier au Roi m\u00e9c\u00e8ne.<\/p>\n<p>La France devient alors sous son r\u00e8gne le point d\u2019attraction de diff\u00e9rents artistes dont les visiteurs pourront admirer les \u0153uvres. C\u2019est une v\u00e9ritable floraison qui survient, r\u00e9v\u00e9lant dans chaque dimension des arts de formidables talents : les dessins et les peintures de Clouet, l\u2019architecture d\u2019Androuet du Cerceau, ou encore les tr\u00e9sors du livre et de l\u2019enluminure de Bellemare. Sous les auspices de deux grands biblioth\u00e9caires, Mellin de Saint-Gelais d\u2019une part et Guillaume Bud\u00e9 de l\u2019autre, le Roi rassemble une collection unique. Le duc d\u2019Aumale, plus grand bibliophile du xixe si\u00e8cle, recherchera toute sa vie ces livres ayant figur\u00e9 dans la \u00ab librairie de Fran\u00e7ois Ier \u00bb, comme on disait alors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Les livres du roi <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>L\u2019\u00e9vocation de la biblioth\u00e8que royale r\u00e9alis\u00e9e dans l\u2019exposition commence naturellement par quelques-uns des manuscrits les plus c\u00e9l\u00e8bres du temps, qui constituent des \u0153uvres majeures dans le domaine des arts et du livre.<\/p>\n<p>Ce sont v\u00e9ritablement les embl\u00e8mes de cette exposition. Le plus fameux est certainement le manuscrit des Guerres Galliques r\u00e9alis\u00e9 vers 1520 par Godefroi le Batave. Ce manuscrit en trois volumes, dont un conserv\u00e9 \u00e0 Chantilly, est r\u00e9uni pour la premi\u00e8re fois. Autre embl\u00e8me de la collection de Chantilly Les trois premiers livres de Diodore Sicilien, traduit en 1534 par Antoine Macaut et r\u00e9alis\u00e9 par le flamand No\u00ebl Bellemare \u00e0 l\u2019enluminure c\u00e9l\u00e9brissime. Cela ne serait pas complet si l\u2019on omettait de pr\u00e9senter un autre tr\u00e9sor du livre de Chantilly, tout \u00e0 fait contemporain, Les Heures d\u2019Anne de Montmorency. Ainsi Hugues Salel, membre de l\u2019entourage royal, traduit Hom\u00e8re et diffuse les humanit\u00e9s grecques parmi les puissants. Ses livres, tr\u00e9sor de l\u2019imprim\u00e9, figurent, avec d\u2019autres traductions de l\u2019antique, parmi les joyaux de la biblioth\u00e8que royale.<\/p>\n<p>La reliure est un autre des points fort de la collection du Cabinet des Livres de Chantilly. Une s\u00e9lection tout \u00e0 fait remarquable de reliures et d\u2019embl\u00e8mes du Roi Fran\u00e7ois Ier, conjugu\u00e9e \u00e0 plusieurs pr\u00eats majeurs, permet de d\u00e9couvrir quelques pi\u00e8ces uniques. Auteurs antiques, comme D\u00e9mosth\u00e8ne ou Maxime Val\u00e8re, \u00e9crivains modernes, comme \u00c9rasme ou Machiavel, voient leurs \u0153uvres par\u00e9es des plus belles reliures r\u00e9alis\u00e9es par les meilleurs artistes et ateliers du temps. Il rassemblera, comme son successeur Henri II, ces pi\u00e8ces en un ensemble myst\u00e9rieux car peu document\u00e9 : son Cabinet de curiosit\u00e9s install\u00e9 \u00e0 Fontainebleau.<\/p>\n<p>Fran\u00e7ois Ier collectionneur ne se limite pas aux arts et il est le premier monarque \u00ab curieux \u00bb, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire amateur de curiosit\u00e9s. Il institue une v\u00e9ritable tradition qui, en d\u00e9pit des al\u00e9as de l\u2019histoire, s\u2019\u00e9panouira pleinement pour vivre jusqu\u2019\u00e0 nos jours. Son Cabinet de curiosit\u00e9s comporte de remarquables pi\u00e8ces exotiques et des merveilles naturelles (objets indig\u00e8nes ou sp\u00e9cimen naturels de nouvelles esp\u00e8ces) ramen\u00e9es de l\u2019exploration par des fran\u00e7ais du Canada ou du Br\u00e9sil.<\/p>\n<p>Pourtant son go\u00fbt, un peu comme dans d\u2019autres domaines, est encore largement m\u00e9di\u00e9val et l\u2019expression d\u2019une curiosit\u00e9 typiquement primitive. Aussi collectionne-t-il \u0153ufs d\u2019autruche et cr\u00e9atures l\u00e9gendaires : basilics, griffes de griffon et, bien s\u00fbr, corne de licorne.
