Jamais un souverain n\u2019avait fait repr\u00e9senter cette c\u00e9r\u00e9monie, jamais on n\u2019avait th\u00e9\u00e2tralis\u00e9 \u00e0 ce point chaque d\u00e9tail, jusqu\u2019aux costumes, con\u00e7us par le peintre \u2013 dans la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 comme dans le tableau \u2013 \u00e0 la demande de l\u2019Empereur. Comprenant, sur deux g\u00e9n\u00e9rations, quatre importants \u00e9b\u00e9nistes, elle fait figure de mod\u00e8le pour une \u00e9tude des diff\u00e9rentes modes, des diff\u00e9rents styles et des diff\u00e9rentes conditions de production de meubles \u00e0 Paris de la fin de l\u2019Ancien R\u00e9gime au Second Empire. L\u2019ouvrage de Sylvain Cordier aborde la vie et les oeuvres de cette famille, mais entend aussi et surtout replacer leurs travaux dans la diversit\u00e9 des contextes historiques favorisant ou dessinant les conditions de r\u00e9alisation et de commerce du meuble parisien tout au long de la premi\u00e8re moiti\u00e9 du XIXe si\u00e8cle. Le premier de ces contextes, qui concerne notamment la branche a\u00een\u00e9e de la famille, constitue l\u2019ensemble des r\u00e8glements ou usages d\u00e9finissant la production de meubles destin\u00e9s au service de l\u2019\u00e9tat et des princes, tout au long d\u2019un si\u00e8cle \u00e9maill\u00e9 de r\u00e9volutions et de changements de couronnes, mais o\u00f9 semble s\u2019imposer d\u2019un r\u00e9gime \u00e0 l\u2019autre le principe de continuit\u00e9 des protocoles et de persistance de l\u2019essentiel des d\u00e9cors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;color: #ff0000\"> A<\/span>u service de Napol\u00e9on, Louis XVIII, Charles X puis Louis- Philippe, mais aussi sollicit\u00e9s, en 1817, pour meubler le grand salon de la Pr\u00e9sidence des Etats-Unis dans la toute nouvelle Maison Blanche \u00e0 Washington, les ateliers Bellang\u00e9 offrent, \u00e0 de nombreuses reprises, l\u2019exemple de ce que sous-entend la livraison de mobilier pour l\u2019\u00e9tat ou l\u2019autorit\u00e9 princi\u00e8re. La production de la famille se caract\u00e9rise aussi dans le domaine de l\u2019\u00e9b\u00e9nisterie de curiosit\u00e9 pr\u00e9cieuse, en constante r\u00e9miniscence des traditions de l\u2019\u00e9b\u00e9nisterie du XVIIIe si\u00e8cle diffus\u00e9e avant la r\u00e9volution par les marchands-merciers, et qui n\u2019avait pas surv\u00e9cu \u00e0 la R\u00e9volution. Une production particuli\u00e8rement appr\u00e9ci\u00e9e par une riche client\u00e8le anglaise de retour \u00e0 Paris apr\u00e8s la chute de Napol\u00e9on et d\u00e9sireuse d\u2019acheter des objets d\u2019art fran\u00e7ais de grand luxe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;color: #ff0000\">P<\/span>our l\u2019histoire des arts d\u00e9coratifs, mais \u00e9galement pour une histoire culturelle et sociologique des mentalit\u00e9s au XIXe si\u00e8cle, la famille Bellang\u00e9 constitue un important sujet. Marc Walter, fin connaisseur de l\u2019architecture de Robert de Cotte \u2013 il est entre autres l\u2019auteur d\u2019une importante monographie sur Versailles parue chez Citadelles et Mazenod -, photographe rompu aux restitutions de grandes demeures, y rejoint donc Etienne Martin, conservateur du mus\u00e9e des arts d\u00e9coratifs sis dans le palais Rohan de Strasbourg, pour une promenade intuitive dans le b\u00e2timent, alternant vues d\u2019ensembles et d\u00e9tails.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;color: #ff0000\">R<\/span>ichement illustr\u00e9, l\u2019ouvrage est con\u00e7u comme un beau livre luxueux rendant un hommage amoureux et instruit \u00e0 l\u2019ambition et la coh\u00e9rence du projet. Peu \u00e9tudi\u00e9 par l&rsquo;historiographie, le stuc &#8211; enduit teint\u00e9 dans la masse, \u00e0 base de chaux &#8211; voit le jour dans l&rsquo;\u00c9gypte ancienne et se d\u00e9veloppe avec des r\u00e9sultats surprenants tout au long de l&rsquo;histoire de l&rsquo;art.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;color: #ff0000\">S<\/span>i son emploi reste limit\u00e9 pendant le Moyen \u00c2ge, il conna\u00eet une p\u00e9riode de grande floraison \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9poque classique, puis de la Renaissance (avec les Loges du Vatican de Rapha\u00ebl) jusqu&rsquo;au XIXe si\u00e8cle dans les diff\u00e9rentes formes et les diff\u00e9rents styles de l&rsquo;\u00e9clectisme. Consid\u00e9r\u00e9 \u00e0 tort comme un art simplement blanc, monochrome et donc un peu ennuyeux, le stuc a connu en r\u00e9alit\u00e9 des phases de grande expression polychrome. C&rsquo;est l\u00e0 la clef de compr\u00e9hension de la villa Madama \u00e0 Rome, du palais du Te \u00e0 Mantoue ou encore du ch\u00e2teau de Fontainebleau. Ces pr\u00e9mices sont \u00e0 l&rsquo;origine de la grande fortune que conna\u00eet la d\u00e9coration en stuc dans l&rsquo;Europe enti\u00e8re \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9poque baroque et, selon une d\u00e9clinaison plus gracieuse et polychrome, pendant le rococo.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;color: #ff0000\">J<\/span>amais, au cours des si\u00e8cles, le stuc n&rsquo;est rest\u00e9 en marge de la peinture et de la sculpture.
