Ces\u00a0ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes culturels et artistiques \u00e9mergent\u00a0d\u00e8s les ann\u00e9es 1820-1830 jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la veille de la\u00a0Premi\u00e8re Guerre mondiale, soit pendant un si\u00e8cle\u00a0environ. Il met d\u2019abord en lumi\u00e8re les objets m\u00e9di\u00e9vaux devenus mod\u00e8les, \u00e0 travers leur \u00e9tude par le biais de publications, relev\u00e9s et dessins. Quelques-uns deviennent m\u00eame des objets iconiques, souvent copi\u00e9s comme le ciboire d\u2019Alpais ou l\u2019ange de Saint-Sulpice-les-Feuilles.
