Durant la Renaissance, les grands personnages de la cour de France ont particuli\u00e8rement recours \u00e0 ce th\u00e8me et les artistes \u00e0 leur service \u0153uvrent \u00e0 cr\u00e9er des mises en sc\u00e8nes in\u00e9dites. Issue de la tradition m\u00e9di\u00e9vale, le portrait \u00e0 cheval sur le champ de bataille ou en tournoi reste intrins\u00e8quement li\u00e9 \u00e0 la chevalerie. Mais ces guerres sont aussi l\u2019occasion de d\u00e9couvrir un nouveau langage, fond\u00e9 \u00e0 la fois sur les grands mod\u00e8les antiques et sur les inventions litt\u00e9raires italiennes. Les nouvelles images montrent un personnage sur un cheval majestueux et au pas, \u00e0 rebours de la fougue chevaleresque, ou bien sur un char. Le portrait r\u00e9aliste se m\u00eale avec des all\u00e9gories ou avec le souvenir des empereurs romains du pass\u00e9. Les grandes f\u00eates et les entr\u00e9es royales, o\u00f9 la parade \u00e0 cheval joue un grand r\u00f4le, participent aussi au renouvellement de la mise en sc\u00e8ne \u00e9questre en peinture et en sculpture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"665\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/m6MCivOpfcI?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=fr-FR&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Une repr\u00e9sentation du pouvoir d\u00e9multipli\u00e9e<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>La France d\u00e9veloppe aussi des exp\u00e9riences sp\u00e9cifiques. Durant les Guerres de Religion, la repr\u00e9sentation presque journalistique des \u00e9v\u00e9nements contribue \u00e0 un nouveau type de portrait \u00e0 cheval. Le peintre Jean Clouet cr\u00e9e pour Fran\u00e7ois Ier une image appel\u00e9e \u00e0 devenir un v\u00e9ritable mod\u00e8le : le cheval et son cavalier sont de profil, mais le souverain tourne la t\u00eate de trois quarts. La monture, au passage, est richement capara\u00e7onn\u00e9e et le roi en armure. Cette repr\u00e9sentation est ensuite reprise par tous les rois Valois et par les Bourbons. Mar\u00e9challe<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">La statue \u00e9questre<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Les ambitions de la Renaissance en mati\u00e8re d\u2019image \u00e9questre culminent autour de la question de la statue \u00e9questre, dont il ne reste malheureusement presqu\u2019aucun exemple en France. Fragments, \u00e9crits et dessins, permettent n\u00e9anmoins d\u2019en saisir l\u2019histoire. C\u2019est tout d\u2019abord une qu\u00eate de forme qui oscille entre le mod\u00e8le imp\u00e9rial antique et la figure du cheval dress\u00e9 exp\u00e9riment\u00e9e par L\u00e9onard de Vinci.
