(c) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.proantic.com\/galerie\/antiquitespromenade\/\">Galerie Nicolas Lent\u00e9<\/a>, Proantic.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Parmi les \u0153uvres de Frans II Francken on d\u00e9nombre plusieurs repr\u00e9sentations d\u2019\u00ab\u00e2nes iconoclastes\u00bb dans les cabinets d\u2019amateur, en r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 l&rsquo;iconoclasme de 1566, provoquant la destruction de l\u2019int\u00e9rieur de la cath\u00e9drale d\u2019Anvers.\u00a0<br>Faire renaitre dans ses \u0153uvres les \u00e9v\u00e8nements vieux d\u2019un demi-si\u00e8cle permet au peintre de mieux appr\u00e9hender l\u2019agitation religieuse qui r\u00e8gne dans les ann\u00e9es 1610-1620 et d\u00e9noncer \u00e0 travers ses \u0153uvres les effets n\u00e9fastes sur l\u2019\u00e9conomie. (c) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.proantic.com\/galerie\/antiquitespromenade\/\">Galerie Nicolas Lent\u00e9<\/a>, Proantic.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>La Furie iconoclaste a longtemps \u00e9t\u00e9 consid\u00e9r\u00e9e par les historiens comme une r\u00e9volte politico-populaire contre la tyrannie du prince, mais aussi comme une r\u00e9volution socio-\u00e9conomique d\u2019un peuple affam\u00e9. Le roi Philippe II, tr\u00e8s absent de son royaume des Pays-Bas, \u00e9tait en effet impopulaire et la pauvret\u00e9 et le ch\u00f4mage augmentaient dramatiquement.<br>Le risque de basculement entre vandalisme des \u0153uvres d\u2019art religieuses vers les \u0153uvres profanes dans un contexte \u00e9conomique instable est difficile \u00e0 pr\u00e9voir.\u00a0<br>C\u2019est pour cette raison dans notre tableau, comme dans tous ceux sortis de l\u2019atelier de Francken, l\u2019\u00e2ne iconoclaste brise les sculptures antiques. Le peintre alerte sur le risque de transfert de folie destructrice sur des \u0153uvres d\u2019art profanes, et non seulement limit\u00e9 au culte catholique. Une \u0153uvre d\u2019art est avant tout une cr\u00e9ation artistique, nonobstant son emploi ou sa localisation.\u00a0<br>En recourant \u00e0 la parodie animale, le peintre choisit l\u2019\u00e2ne pour d\u00e9noncer les ravages de l\u2019iconoclasme.
