Pas plus aux murs, aux objets, \u00e9ventails, c\u00e9ramiques et autres bas-reliefs. <\/strong>Pourtant, des \u0153uvres impressionnistes regard\u00e9es aujourd\u2019hui comme des tableaux de chevalet \u2013 paysages, fleurs ou sc\u00e8nes de la vie moderne \u2013 ont d\u2019abord \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7ues comme des d\u00e9corations. L\u2019artiste n\u2019\u00e9tait pas le seul \u00e0 vouloir participer aux nombreux chantiers d\u00e9coratifs de la fin du XIX<sup>e\u00a0<\/sup>si\u00e8cle. Pourtant, le cycle des&nbsp;<em>Nymph\u00e9as&nbsp;<\/em>de l\u2019Orangerie, que Monet nommait ses \u00ab grandes d\u00e9corations \u00bb, vient couronner plus de soixante ann\u00e9es d\u2019incursions dans ce domaine. Et si les tableaux expos\u00e9s par les impressionnistes ont choqu\u00e9, c\u2019est aussi parce qu\u2019ils \u00e9taient vu telles de simples d\u00e9corations, d\u00e9nu\u00e9es de signification et vou\u00e9es au seul plaisir des sens.
