Ses collections se sont constitu\u00e9es de mani\u00e8re r\u00e9trospective ou simultan\u00e9e afin de d\u00e9fendre une certaine id\u00e9e des arts d\u00e9coratifs \u00e0 la fois fran\u00e7ais et ouverts sur toutes les cultures artistiques, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire de l\u2019art de vivre, de la cr\u00e9ativit\u00e9 dans le domaine de l\u2019objet, objet d\u2019art ou objet de mode. En plus de 150 ans, il a su tisser des liens \u00e9troits avec les manufactures du\u00a0XIX<sup>e<\/sup>\u00a0si\u00e8cle, comme avec ce qui en transmet l\u2019h\u00e9ritage contemporain, les maisons du luxe fran\u00e7ais. Elle souligne des points moins connus du grand public pour lequel la notion de luxe est de nos jours tr\u00e8s profond\u00e9ment d\u00e9finie par la pr\u00e9sence massive des marques dans notre quotidien, mots-s\u00e9sames du fantasme de la consommation, logos surrepr\u00e9sent\u00e9s dans l\u2019espace urbain, art\u00e8res des m\u00e9tropoles ou a\u00e9roports d\u2019un monde globalis\u00e9, en somme une nouvelle lingua franca \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle de la plan\u00e8te.
