Aujourd\u2019hui conserv\u00e9 \u00e0 la Tate Britain, ce fonds r\u00e9v\u00e8le toute la modernit\u00e9 de ce grand peintre romantique. D\u2019abord autodidacte, il travaille chez un architecte, prend des cours de perspective et de topographie, puis entre \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cole de la Royal Academy \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de quatorze ans.
