Dans cet album, comportant 99 photographies de petit format (9,5 cm sur 8 cm) dont 23 vues ext\u00e9rieures et 76 vues int\u00e9rieures, le photographe r\u00e9ussit \u00e0 capter le raffinement de l\u2019ameublement du palais vers 1868, deux ans avant sa disparition dans l\u2019incendie qui le ravagea en octobre 1870. Les cr\u00e9ations les plus novatrices de la manufacture de S\u00e8vres sous le Second Empire, grande \u00e9poque cr\u00e9atrice pour la manufacture, sont ici repr\u00e9sent\u00e9es par deux vases \u00e9trusques de Naples. L\u2019ensemble des peintures visibles en ce lieu prestigieux n\u2019avait rien d\u2019homog\u00e8ne pour des raisons d\u2019arriv\u00e9e ant\u00e9rieure au Second Empire, sans compter de multiples rotations pour les \u0153uvres entr\u00e9es apr\u00e8s 1850. Le couple imp\u00e9rial fait venir \u00e0 Saint-Cloud des tableaux provenant de grands mus\u00e9es comme le Louvre ou des tableaux pr\u00e9sent\u00e9s lors des Salons. Le Zouave trappiste d\u2019Horace Vernet, expos\u00e9 au Salon de 1857 \u00e0 Paris, est remarqu\u00e9 par Napol\u00e9on III et Eug\u00e9nie qui l\u2019ach\u00e8tent sur les cr\u00e9dits de la Liste civile.
