Chambord, seront mis en perspective par pr\u00e8s de 150 \u0153uvres remarquables provenant des collections de 33 institutions prestigieuses dont la Biblioth\u00e8que nationale de France, le Mus\u00e9e du Louvre, la Galerie des Offices, le British Museum, la Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale de Florence, le Mus\u00e9e de l\u2019Arm\u00e9e ou encore la Veneranda Biblioteca Ambrosiana de lions de Fran\u00e7ois Ier ou encore cinq dessins originaux sur v\u00e9lin ex\u00e9cut\u00e9s par le c\u00e9l\u00e8bre architecte Jacques Androuet du Cerceau, permettra au public de v\u00e9ritablement Bien s\u00fbr, leur qu\u00eate de reconnaissance et de protection y est pour beaucoup. Mais plus fondamentalement, cette collusion du \u00ab savant et du politique \u00bb tient \u00e0 ce qu\u2019\u00e0 leurs yeux, l\u2019\u00e9dification du cadre b\u00e2ti est indissociable de la production de l\u2019harmonie sociale : faire une cit\u00e9, c\u2019est \u00e0 la fois cr\u00e9er un habitat mat\u00e9riel et unir un collectif humain. L\u2019architecture et l\u2019urbanisme participent du \u00ab bon gouvernement \u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Du coup, si l\u2019architecte est au service du Prince, c\u2019est aussi que le Prince se veut architecte : pas seulement initi\u00e9 \u00e0 cet art, mais ma\u00eetre dans celui de faire soci\u00e9t\u00e9, d\u2019unir un peuple autour de son pouvoir. Et pourtant, l\u2019architecture est tr\u00e8s pr\u00e9sente dans ses carnets remplis d\u2019exercices qui sont autant de variations sur \u00ab l\u2019architecture possible \u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Ce sont des dessins qui rel\u00e8vent plus de la recherche que de la ma\u00eetrise d\u2019\u0153uvre. Recherches techniques et scientifiques, comme lorsqu\u2019il est consult\u00e9 sur les moyens de consolider le transept de la cath\u00e9drale de Milan pour pouvoir installer \u00e0 son fa\u00eete une coupole et une fl\u00e8che. Recherches formelles, comme dans ces riches s\u00e9ries de dessins o\u00f9 il d\u00e9cline les multiples variations possibles d\u2019\u00e9glises \u00ab \u00e0 plan centr\u00e9 \u00bb. Recherches fonctionnelles, quand il \u00e9tudie ces \u00ab organes de circulation \u00bb des villes et des \u00e9difices que sont les rues, les canaux, les escaliers, o\u00f9 se joue la gestion des flux. Une \u00e8re nouvelle commence avec lui, que beaucoup annoncent alors comme un nouvel \u00c2ge d\u2019Or. La victoire de Marignan, en septembre 1515, fait de lui un \u00ab second C\u00e9sar \u00bb. Nourri de l\u2019imaginaire chevaleresque qui constitue son r\u00e9f\u00e9rent intellectuel et id\u00e9ologique, le jeune roi se voit comme destin\u00e9 \u00e0 restaurer l\u2019empire de Constantin ou celui de Charlemagne, et \u00e0 relancer les croisades pour la reconqu\u00eate des Lieux Saints.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019ambition de Fran\u00e7ois Ier est avant tout d\u2019occuper la place de chef temporel \u2013 et militaire \u2013 du monde chr\u00e9tien : la place que s\u2019\u00e9tait donn\u00e9e Constantin en se convertissant en 313, celle qu\u2019avait occup\u00e9e Charlemagne au d\u00e9but du IXe si\u00e8cle, celle qu\u2019avaient occup\u00e9e les empereurs byzantins. Son \u00e9lection au titre d\u2019empereur du \u00ab Saint-Empire romain germanique \u00bb aurait pu lui donner officiellement cette mission. Les \u00e9lecteurs en d\u00e9cid\u00e8rent autrement : ce fut \u00e0 Charles Quint qu\u2019il revint de reb\u00e2tir l\u2019Empire. Le r\u00eave se fissure avec cette \u00e9lection (juin 1519), puis avec la d\u00e9faite de Pavie (f\u00e9vrier 1525). Et de fait, \u00e0 partir de son r\u00e8gne, c\u2019est dans les projets royaux que se concentre l\u2019innovation architecturale en France.<\/p>\n<p>Il imprime sa marque dans les onze chantiers d\u2019am\u00e9nagement ou de construction qu\u2019il lance, d\u2019abord en Val de Loire (Blois, Amboise, Chambord), puis en \u00cele-deFrance (Madrid, Fontainebleau, Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Villers-Cotter\u00eats, etc.). Mais entre 1519 et cette date, avec une interruption de plus de deux ans de l\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9 1524 \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9 1526, Chambord fut un immense chantier. On verra dans l\u2019exposition plusieurs \u00e9l\u00e9ments arch\u00e9ologiques retrouv\u00e9s dans les fouilles, des \u00e9l\u00e9ments lapidaires conserv\u00e9s depuis le XIXe si\u00e8cle, ainsi qu\u2019une spectaculaire reconstitution \u00e0 l\u2019identique des fondations du ch\u00e2teau, soit une structure de 5,50m de hauteur sur 1m de largeur montrant les diff\u00e9rentes \u00ab couches \u00bb. La tradition veut que l\u2019animal, invuln\u00e9rable, soit capable de vivre au milieu des flammes et d\u2019\u00e9teindre le feu ; la devise \u00ab je me nourris au bon feu \u2013 j\u2019\u00e9teins le mauvais \u00bb recommande au jeune prince de se nourrir au doux feu de la sagesse, et de refr\u00e9ner les app\u00e9tits bestiaux et les d\u00e9sirs violents. Fran\u00e7ois Ier en a fait son embl\u00e8me royal. On sait que le roi voulait une r\u00e9sidence de chasse, o\u00f9 la \u00ab petite bande \u00bb puisse passer de courts s\u00e9jours, et il est vrai que l\u2019endroit \u00e9tait giboyeux. Mais il voulait en m\u00eame temps que Chambord soit une merveille donn\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019admiration du monde. Du coup, les raisons de Chambord ne sont pas \u00e0 chercher dans les fonctions auxquelles il aurait pu r\u00e9pondre, mais dans les significations que l\u2019architecture y exprime. En cette \u00e9poque o\u00f9 la pens\u00e9e analogique r\u00e8gne, Chambord est une gerbe d\u2019all\u00e9gories o\u00f9 se m\u00ealent le politique et le religieux. Comme de nombreux \u00ab ch\u00e2teau \u00bb fran\u00e7ais, il garde ces attributs de l\u2019ancien ch\u00e2teau-fort, alors qu\u2019ils n\u2019ont plus aucune fonction militaire. La grosse tour et l\u2019enceinte sont devenus les traits architecturaux propres \u00e0 la r\u00e9sidence seigneuriale. Mais si Chambord fait ainsi allusion aux anciennes forteresses royales, et particuli\u00e8rement au ch\u00e2teau de Vincennes, que Charles V avait fait construire entre 1364 et 1380, c\u2019est que Fran\u00e7ois Ier entend s\u2019inscrire dans la lign\u00e9e des rois-b\u00e2tisseurs, de ceux qui avaient fait le royaume, au cours de ce long processus o\u00f9 le suzerain s\u2019\u00e9tait fait souverain.
