Henri GUINIER (1867-1927) Breton Cottage Pastel on cardboard signed lower left 22.5x31cm 30.5x39cm (framed) Henri GUINIER (1867-1927) Student at the School of Arts and Crafts in Châlons en Champagne from 1883 , Guinier became an engineer in 1889. Admitted to the Académie Julian and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the workshops of Benjamin-Constant (1845-1902) and Jules Lefebvre (1834-1912), he devoted himself quickly to painting, his true passion. Second prize in Rome in 1896, a gold medal at the Salon of French Artists in 1898, he obtained a silver medal at the Universal Exhibition in 1900. In 1907, he won the Henner Prize. In Paris, Henri Guinier met Fernand Legout-Gérard who introduced him to Concarneau. In 1909, he participated with other painters in the decoration of the town hall of Neuilly-sur-Seine, painting La Tapisserie. Painter and Pastellist, brilliant colorist, he produced many portraits, mainly female. He also executes landscapes, marine scenes often inspired by Brittany, whose costumes and landscapes he paints, mainly the region of Concarneau and the Pays Bigouden, but also in Faouët, Vannes, Paimpol and the island of Bréhat. . The Faouët Museum devoted a major exhibition to him in 2008.
