HST without frame 80 X 65 - 103 x 85 with frame -

An inscription difficult to read on the chassis -

No apparent signature -

Louis Tocqué (1696-1772). Pupil of Nicolas Bertin and Hyacinthe Rigaud. Full member of the Academy in 1734 with a portrait of the sculptor Jean Louis Lemoine.

His fame is great, called to the court of Russia by Empress Elisabeth, he stayed there for two years before passing through the court of Denmark in 1759

– He will stay in all the courts of northern Europe where a most royal welcome is reserved for him.

From 1737 to 1759, he produced numerous works at the exhibitions of the Academy.
