"Work Of Brienz Switzerland Pedestal And Two Chairs"
Beautiful set of three pieces of furniture typical of the work of the region of Brienz Switzerland. This small town in the Bernese Oberland specializes in the manufacture of pieces incorporating sculpture and naturalist-inspired marquetry, particularly on the theme of the Alps, the forest and the mountains. Chamois, ibexes, deer and other animals inhabiting these forests are staged in wooded landscapes of fir trees in which a few characters in traditional local dress evolve. Our set is embellished with peripheral decorations of scrolls of branches and shells and flowers. The marquetry work is underlined with details in ink or pyrography. The pedestal table top, in a scalloped shape, can be tilted thanks to a wooden lock system accessible from below. The backs of the chairs are assembled on the seat through a clever system of tenons and wedges. This set, of exceptional quality, dates from the beginning of the 20th century, and will successfully complete the decoration of an alpine chalet or apartment.
