"Seascape Etching After Ludolf Bakhuizen"

Exceptional in quality of execution large etching seascape after  Ludolf Bakhuizen  (ou Backhuysen)  (1630 - 1708) engraved by Pierre-Charles Canot  (1710-1777) and John Boydell (1719-1804) in 1766.

Provenance : collection Defer-Dumesnil ; on the back of the etching  , black ink mark : HDD, for the collection Defer-Dumesnil.
Pierre Defer (1798-1870) was expert of the King Louis-Philippe, he constituted an important collection during the first half of the 19th century. He was the author of many sales catalogues since 1831, but also wrote a very precious and famous book called General Catalogue of public auctions of paintings and prints, which unfortunately ceased in 1868 at the letter D.
