"XVIIIth Folk Art Character Head Sculpture In Carved Blond Oak Signed Haute-époque"
POPULAR ART OLD SCULPTURE XVIII TH CENTURY FRANCE COMTAT DE FORCALQUIER BLOND OAK STAINED MAHOGANY HAUTE-ÉPOQUE STYLE Large character head, young adult, man of the people, in a soft hat/cap, with a barely hinted sybilline smile, but with all the same a playful look from certain angles. This is a beautiful work of folk art, executed entirely with a gouge. The sculpture has a through slit, like a scar symbolic of the harshness of existence in its harsh environment at that time. The blond oak has been stained with mahogany, hence this interesting patina. Signed on the top of the sculpture R. Demozay; possibly posterior to the actual sculpture. Good condition (see descriptive photos). A clip on the back to hang it up. Weight: 2,770kg.
