The canvas is very pleasant, cheerful and really interesting and it amazes at the joyful joy that this bunch of ragged-clad figures can spread. Among the countless tasty animated scenes with characters of peasant origin described by the famous Flemish masters, the representation of a group of beggars is rare if not impossible to find. the Author, instead of capturing a rural but still dignified context, proposes an unusual scene where the protagonists are clearly beggars who meet in front of the fire in the evening to celebrate the fruit of their begging. The vigorous brushstrokes and the bright colors with very pronounced chiaroscuros, create a pleasant effect of movement and three-dimensionality. The fire, fueled by the child with the bellows, illuminates all the figures frontally, which stand out clearly against the dark background of the room. The painting strikes the viewer with the immediacy of the composition which, despite its stark, harsh reality, conveys a positive message.
