Colinet - Large Bronze Art Deco 76 Cms - Dancer With Parrots - C.1930

Exceptional art deco sculpture around 1930 by Claire COLINET representing a naked dancer with parrots, also called in English "Beside the Missouri" or "Birds of paradise".

This 76 cm bronze (with base) is the largest version of this model, an ideal format to decorate your interior.

Two different patinas have been used to bring a pleasant contrast to the sculpture, which rests on a circular, fluted marble base.

This COLINET model is referenced and illustrated in several books: “Art deco and other figures” by Bryan Catley, page 108 and “Bronzes, sculptors and founders, master index” by Harold Berman, page 1066.

Claire Colinet first studied sculpture in Belgium with Jef Lambeaux then moved to Paris in 1910. In 1913, she exhibited a few works at the Salon des Artistes Français. The following year, she received the "honorable" medal there alongside Demeter Chiparus and Louis Comfort Tiffany and was then exhibited regularly. In 1929, she was elected a permanent member and on this occasion created the sculpture “Dreams are soap bubbles”. From 1937 to 1940, she exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants in Paris and became a member of the Union of Women Painters and Sculptors. His works were exhibited posthumously at the Salon de peinture et de Sculpture for almost 30 years. She exhibited for the last time in 1945 and died 5 years later in Asnieres.

Her work is part of the art deco movement of the interwar period, she especially made female figures and exotic dancers, in patinated bronze or chryselephantine (bronze / ivory), which made her successful.

Some COLINET sculptures such as the " Ankara dancer" sell for more than 50,000 euros !
