Small Lady's Desk Style XVI, Napoleon III Period - Mid-19th Century

Refined Louis XVI style lady's desk, small, in ebonized wood with mother-of-pearl inlays and bronze ornaments. The upper part, in step, presents a top around the perimeter decorated with a chiselled strip on its edge and surmounted by an openwork scalloped gallery on the back and the two returns. This tall unit has three drawers. The central one is decorated with a magnificent bronze handle depicting a scene of angels holding a crown. This drawer is inlaid with brass and mother-of-pearl crosses with iridescent reflections, surrounded by a chiseled strip. On each side, a small drawer with button handle with pearl outlines surmounted by a wide ribbon, brings symmetry and harmony to the whole. The base unit, fitted with a top pulling towards the front forming the writing desk, is lined with brass nets and recent black leather. This one is decorated with a golden vignette, small angles and a central motif. In front of the belt, we find a large drawer with entrance in carved bronze, accompanied by a key and a lock in perfect working order. This lady's desk rests on four legs turned in a spindle, with stopped grooves decorated with asparagus of different heights in brass. The upper part of these feet is embellished with a brass collar. Graceful and meticulously crafted, this elegant piece of furniture will delight with its ornamentation and the beauty of its essence.
