"Oil On Isorel - Still Life With Bread With Cheese And Wine By Claude Gaignoux 1924-2005"
Oil On Isorel - Still Life With Bread, Cheese And Wine By Claude Gaignoux 1924-2005 dimensions 45 x 24 cm Born in Le Havre on August 29, 1924 and died in October 2005. As a teenager, he studied music, played the cello in a quartet until a serious affection directs him towards drawing and painting. Will follow the courses at the Fine Arts of Le Havre Initially a music lover and musician, Claude Gaignoux turns to drawing and painting following a serious illness. He took classes at the Academy of Fine Arts in Le Havre, where he graduated in 1952. It is natural that Gaignoux's artistic preference went to his city, most of his Post-Impressionist work representing the city in question, its monuments and its surroundings. The style of the French painter bears the mark of the technical advances of the Impressionist generation: white background which brings out the colors, limited palette, representation of water in order to accentuate the impression of light, complementary colors (here blue and orange), light brushstrokes charged with emotion, which reflect the fleeting temporality of perception Claude GAIGNOUX I knew him in Rouen at the time of the exhibitions at the Galerie Menuisement, of which he was one of faithful with his friends from Le Havre, Dieppe and Fécamp, without forgetting our critical meetings during the openings of the Salon de Rouen or at the Galerie Géricault. It was at this time that I discovered his beautiful profession which he strove to veil, without succeeding too much, under the luminous poetry of his motifs. From his post-impressionist influence, Claude GAIGNOUX has always maintained an emergence of limpid colors, blurred in warm shades that were sometimes animated by more incisive touches in an atmosphere of harmony and passion. Claude GAIGNOUX born in Le Havre on August 29, 1924 has just passed away at the beginning of October 2005. As a teenager, he studied music, played the cello in a quartet until a serious affection directed him towards drawing and painting. Courses at the Beaux Arts in Le Havre will follow with Gérard DESGRANGES as a teacher before he participates in the Salon des Peintres Ouvriers in 1952, then at the UAP and the Salon des Artistes Havrais with Jacques HAMON. Thus began an artistic life and the creation of his "Saint-Michel workshop" where his son Gilles, a specialist in old watchmaking, works, surrounded by constantly renewed works by his painter father. The Salons de la Marine, des "Français" d'Automne, National des Beaux Arts, de l'Art Libre, Biennials, Galleries, official and private purchases both in France and abroad and awards and distinctions have never prevented Claude GAIGNOUX from devoting himself to his "Thursday Workshop" for children since 1964, nor from advocating his city of Le Havre, whose seduction and charm of the "small port" he brought to the walls of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, which acquired this painting from him in 1992. André RUELLAN, art critic
