A small gilt bronze vase, swollen in shape, with naturalistic decoration and a child playing with a creeper. Beautiful gilding. It is signed by the bronzier F.BARBEDIENNE, and by the sculptor BARRIAS Louis-Ernest Barrias comes from a family of artists. Louis-Ernest Barrias turned towards artistic studies. Entered the School of Fine Arts in Paris in 1858, he abandoned painting to move towards sculpture under the direction of François Jouffroy. Second Prix de Rome in 1861 for Chryséis returned to his father by Ulysses, he won the Prix de Rome in 1865 and was hired on the construction site of the Paris Opera.
