Born Parisian painter in a family of artists, Henri Barnoin frequented Brittany from the 1910s, and in 1920, he even made Concarneau his home port, opening Quai Pénéroff a studio-gallery. He exhibited there his works representing Breton themes of everyday life. The picturesqueness of Breton costume pleased him so much that he developed it at will on his market and pardon scenes, sometimes even without worrying about attributing the right headdress to the right region! Official painter of the Navy in 1926, he also produced some beautiful canvases as luminous as his Breton scenes. The craze for his paintings developed very early, and he published several of them in lithographs which he enhanced with gouache, in order to allow small budgets to be able to acquire them.
