Old Koula Rug, 127 Cm X 186 Cm, Hand-knotted Silk, Anatolia, Late Nineteenth Century

Prayer-shaped Koula, originating from Koula in Anatolia, in very good condition from the end of the 19th century.
If ancient pieces from Asia Minor have been preserved for us in a remarkable state, it is undoubtedly thanks to the quality of the wools or silks used, and their dense weaving, but also because they have not been held only by pious hands, as those who tied them were pious.
Two small towns in Anatolia, close to each other, have left us remarkable prayer rugs of unequaled artistic quality:
these are Koula and Ghiordès, whose inhabitants knotted at home pieces of a beauty that can rival the beauty of the masterpieces of the Persian workshops.
Our model features a plain red niche, adorned with an ornamental style so deliberately floral that the lamp and its light rays have taken the form of flowers.
Pink, red and blue carnations alternate to compose the patterns of the borders on cream, pink and blue backgrounds.
This carpet of great beauty and delicacy of design and color is a pure jewel of Anatolian art from the second half of the 19th century.
The density of this part is approximately 800,000 knots per M2.
