History
Victoire Boizot was the widow of the famous goldsmith Joseph-Etienne Blerzy (active 1750-1806). She received her hallmark in 1808 which was destroyed in 1813, dating our box quite precisely to 1809-1813, when Charles Philippe was still only Comte d'Artois. The presence of the "closed" crown of the King of France on the cipher CP indicates that the snuffbox was probably kept in the royal stock for presents, until 1826 when Charles Philippe became Charles X, offered it to Queignard de Valdené.
The latter, appointed officer of the Legion of Honor on May 1, 1821, is cited as secretary to the Cabinet of Monsieur (Charles Philippe, Count of Artois, future Charles X) in the French National Archives (O/3/828 file 32, 1815-1826).
