"Yad Or Reading Hand, Alsace, Circa 1780"
Carved wooden yad whose woodwork is typical of Alsatian production at the end of the 18th century. It measures 25.8cm in length. This instrument, called the “reading hand or finger” (yad), makes it possible to read the texts of the Torah without risking touching the scroll and therefore not damaging it. It is therefore a reading pointer for liturgical use. Uncommon model, missing a finger.
