"French 19th Century Louis XVI Style Ormolu-mounted Pedestal Clock"
A very fine French 19th Century Louis XVI style ormolu-mounted amaranth, tulipwood, sycamore and parquetry pedestal Régulateur de Parquet Tall Case Clock. After the model attributed to Jean-Henri Riesener, surmounted by a cloud-form case cast with three putti cherubs suspending garlands, centred by a white enamel dial with Roman numerals, on a spreading socle with ribbon-hung garlands, above the square tapering pedestal headed by a laurel wreath beneath an Apollo mask, above scrolling foliage centred by a flower-filled urn, the sides with lozenge parquetry panels, on four paw-cast feet above a shaped plinth centred by a foliate wreath, on toupie feet.

This clock is a copy of the celebrated model made circa 1785 and attributed to Jean-Henri Riesener (1734-1806), now in the Louvre (cat. C.Dr., No 185) illustrated in Pierre Verlet, Les Bronzes Dorés Français du XVIIIe Siècle, Picard, 1999, pp. 116 and 384
