Object description :

"Scriban Between Two From The South West Louis XV Period, Circa 1745"
Rare small scriban from the south west of France from the mid-18th century Louis XV period, also called chest of drawers or scribanne chest of drawers in molded and waxed walnut wood. Shaped like a curved tomb on all sides, it opens with three drawers in two rows, one concave the other convex decorated with drooping pull handles and keyholes for its convenient part. A polylobed flap opens its office part. The flap is lowered horizontally by two articulated fittings in order to form a flat surface for the purpose of a writing desk. Once the flap is in a horizontal position, we discover an interior with castins (cabinet) with a multi-lobed step formed by two side boxes where four curved layettes (small drawers with thin wooden fonçures) slide enclosing a niche. A multi-lobed floor unifies the whole. The middle part of this floor is removable, closing a secret cavity under the base of the cabinet. Once removed, we discover a back and forth base that hides a secret. This is made up of a tank on the depth and two concealed side cavities. Amounts with double curves hollowed out with reserves formed by moldings are extended by small arched feet punctuated with deer hooves. The crosspieces are fretted on all sides. The greatest care has been taken to connect elements of irreproachable quality. Balance, nervousness, elegance and quality are the most appropriate terms for this elegant scriban desk, typically from the south-west and more particularly from the Aquitaine region. This very specific work of the master cabinetmakers gives this atypical piece of furniture all its letters of nobility; one finds there the elegance of so-called port furniture, combined with the magnificence of natural wood and more precisely of heart of walnut. The very warm patina makes it possible to appreciate all the gouging strokes of the master cabinetmaker which highlights. It should be noted that usually this type of furniture is rather large, our small size model is therefore a rare example perfectly suited to our current homes. Work from the Aquitaine region of southwestern France from the Louis XV period, 18th century. Dimensions: Height: 98.5cm, Width: 95cm (above) 96 (at the height of the curve), Depth: 56cm. Depth of the flap deployed: 95cm, Height of the flap once it is deployed: 75cm.
