Oval Pendant Representing "marine Allegories Of Putti" - 1660 flag

Object description :

"Oval Pendant Representing "marine Allegories Of Putti" - 1660"
Pleasant oval pendant representing "Marine Allegories of Putti", is in excellent condition and of good pictorial quality, one predominant over the other. The subject and especially the stylistic composition are clearly attributable to the Roman / Neapolitan environment of the mid-seventeenth century, also deriving from the prototypes of the turn of the century by F. Albani. On the other hand, however, the more marked and pasty figures of the cherubs, and the focus on the fundamental decorative aspect, suggest a Genoese painter, precursor of the more famous Piola and recognized mainly as an engraver, who responds to the name of Giovanni Andrea Podesta. The same, in fact, trained in the school of Grechetto, was then contaminated by Roman Baroque painting during his various stays. Many comparisons with his mature works can indeed be brought closer to our paintings, finding heartwarming similarities and possibly dating the pair of works to around the end of the 1960s.
