Ferdinand Levillain (1837 -1905), pair of patinated and parcel-gilded bronze vases in the Classical Antiquity style
Each vase with a slender neck decorated with a bas-relief frieze of a continuous scene of an amusing calvacade or stampede at a market with figures chasing birds and animals, flanked to each side by a scrolling handle terminating by a bearded mask, the body with further bearded masks each joined by a pair of facing leopards above a caduceus with grapes and palmettes, on four paw feet supports and a circular base, each vase signed F. Levillain.
