Pastel portrait of a young officer signed lower left Lauret for Emmanuel Joseph Lauret (1809-1882) and dated 1839, in a pitch pine frame with waxed and black lacquered ebony fillets. Emmanuel Joseph Lauret is a genre painter, portrait painter, landscape painter from Aix en Provence, who participated in the salon from 1841 to 1866, living between France and Algeria, he had a rich orientalist period. Many of his works are kept in French museums. Our young officer with long brown hair, fine features, dark eyes exudes both gentleness and determination, in a mastered quality of execution.
Good condition, some stains on the bottom visible in the photos.
