The painting, in overall good condition, depicts an interior scene with a middle-aged couple seated at a table on which rest two plates full of vegetables. At the feet of the man a large wicker basket and other vegetables. The scene is completed by two female figures, from behind, on the sides of the canvas and a male figure, also standing, resolved to discuss with the lady at the table. The different chromatic choice for the characters depicted is striking: predominantly light and luminous colors for the seated characters, brown and almost dull for the standing characters, as if to signify a social or professional difference between them.

The work rightly dates back to an artist active in Flanders in the 17th century, certainly influenced by the works of the great master Willem Van Mieris, known for his genre paintings, portraits, landscapes and pieces of history and specializing in the interiors of stores and kitchens behind an arched opening, leading the Guild of San Luca for several years.
