Mazarin Desk In Marquetry Louis XIV XVII Period

Mazarin desk in walnut, ash, amaranth, rosewood and boxwood marquetry Louis XIV XVII period. Tray decorated with a large medallion in the center, richly inlaid with arabesques, foliage and birds in boxwood on an amaranth background. The medallion is surrounded by a net of amaranth underlined by small nets of boxwood extending by interlacing underlining the periphery of the top and forming spandrels at the corners. The sides have a diamond in an amaranth frame on an ash background. The front has six convex drawers, divided into two boxes, inlaid with boxwood foliage on an amaranth background in walnut frames. The two boxes are separated by a concave drawer and a window opening with a richly inlaid flap. Base formed by eight tapered pilasters in walnut and amaranth ending in small black ball feet, the whole is joined by an x-shaped spacer in rosewood veneer. Drawers mounted in walnut, original locks working with three keys. Original gilt bronze keyholes. Work from the Louis XIV period with harmonious proportions, beautifully crafted both in the finesse of the marquetry work and in the choice of wood used.
